Israel’s National Security Council has issued a warning to Israelis abroad ahead of the upcoming spring holidays, saying the ongoing war with Iran has significantly increased the threat of terror attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets worldwide.
In a public message released ahead of the holiday period, the National Security Council said Iran and its proxies have intensified efforts in recent weeks to carry out attacks abroad, including attempts and attacks targeting synagogues and Jewish sites.
According to the warning, explosive devices were planted at synagogues in Belgium and the Netherlands in recent weeks, and an attempted attack on a synagogue in the United States also was reported.
The National Security Council warned that Iran is expected to intensify efforts to target Israelis and Jewish communities abroad, particularly during major holidays when large numbers of people gather for events and celebrations.
With Passover beginning Wednesday evening, April 1, officials cautioned that holiday gatherings, Jewish institutions, and locations frequently visited by Israelis overseas could become potential targets for attacks carried out by Iranian operatives or individuals acting under Iranian inspiration.
Authorities are therefore urging Israelis abroad to exercise heightened caution during the holiday period, including avoiding large public Passover events that are not properly secured and remaining vigilant in areas associated with Israeli or Jewish activity.
The warning specifically mentioned countries surrounding Iran, including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Gulf states, where Israelis were advised to avoid attending events at locations identified with Israel or Jewish communities due to fears they could be targeted.
The National Security Council also warned Israelis traveling in parts of Asia, particularly Thailand and the Philippines, to exercise increased caution.
Regarding travel routes to and from Israel, officials recommended using Ben Gurion Airport whenever possible. Israelis who choose to travel via Egypt or Jordan were advised to use Taba Airport in Egypt or Aqaba Airport in Jordan only for immediate transit and to avoid staying in those countries.
The National Security Council also urged Israelis abroad to avoid posting real-time location information on social media, avoid unprotected Jewish or Israeli events, remain alert in Jewish areas such as synagogues and Chabad houses, and avoid entering areas known to be hostile toward Israelis and Jews.
The warning comes as Israel remains at war with Iran and its regional proxies, with Israeli officials warning that Iran is increasingly attempting to target Israelis and Jews abroad as part of the broader conflict.
