In a powerful display of unity and remembrance, the Staten Island Jewish community gathered at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Seaview on March 5 to honor the memory of Shiri Bibas and her young children, Ariel, age 4, and baby Kfir. The Bibas family was abducted by Hamas-led terrorists from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, 2023, and tragically murdered in captivity in Gaza.

The evening was filled with heartfelt tributes, music, and words of faith, as community members came together to mourn and reflect on the devastating loss. A poignant highlight of the memorial was a special presentation by Miriam Ben-Ami, the mother of hostage Yosef Chaim Ochana. Miriam shared how her unwavering faith in Hashem has provided her with strength and solace during her personal ordeal, offering a message of resilience and hope to those in attendance.

Adding to the solemn yet uplifting atmosphere, the choir of the Jewish Foundation School performed a moving musical tribute, touching the hearts of all who gathered.

Mendy Mirocznik, president of the Council of Jewish Organizations of Staten Island (COJO), expressed his gratitude to Orit Lender, executive director and CEO of the JCC, for hosting and supporting the memorial. He also acknowledged the contributions of Chabad of Staten Island, the Young Israel of Staten Island, and the Jewish Foundation School for their dedication to bringing the community together in this time of sorrow.

“As the umbrella and convenor organization for the Staten Island Jewish community, our strength lies in unity and love,” said Mirocznik. “Tonight, our gathering is a testament to our commitment to Achdus, and we pray that our unity serves as a merit for the swift and safe return of our brothers and sisters who remain in captivity.”

The memorial underscored the resilience of the Staten Island Jewish community, demonstrating that even in the face of tragedy, faith and togetherness can provide solace and strength. As attendees embraced one another in solidarity, the event served as a poignant reminder that those lost will never be forgotten.
