(TJV NEWS) President Trump said Border Czar Tom Homan should arrest Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom after he taunted the administration for sending in forces to quell riots in Los Angeles.

“I would do it if I were Tom, I think it’s great,” Trump told reporters Monday.

“Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it’d be a great thing.”

“He’s done a terrible job, look. I like Gavin Newsom. He’s a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent. Everybody knows,” he added.

After the clip went viral, Newsom responded writing, “The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor. This is a day I hoped I would never see in America.”

“I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican this is a line we cannot cross as a nation — this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”

The president’s comments come as Newsom over the weekend dared Homan to arrest him.

“Come after me, arrest me,” Newsom told MSNBC on Sunday. “Let’s get it over with, tough guy. I don’t give a damn. But I care about my community. I care about this community… That kind of bloviating is exhausting. So Tom, arrest me, let’s go.”

Homan on Monday joined MSNBC to respond to Newsom’s comments, saying he’s never threatened to arrest the governor.

The border czar also justified sending in National Guard troops to help suppress the riots, saying Gov. Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass “should have taken action while the city burned.”

Homan has asked the Department of Justice to look into arresting sanctuary city and state officials who obstruct and interfere with deportation operations
