(TJV NEWS)Just days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, a prominent Iranian religious authority has issued a fatwa condemning both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, one of Iran’s most influential Shiite clerics, declared the two leaders “enemies of God” in a religious decree responding to alleged threats made against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The ruling, or fatwa, was revealed by Iran’s state-affiliated Mehr News Agency.

The fatwa came after a group of followers reportedly asked Shirazi what obligations Muslims have in the face of Trump and Netanyahu’s aggressive rhetoric. According to the cleric, any person or government that threatens Iran’s Supreme Leader or its senior religious scholars — known as Marja in Shia Islam — should be viewed as an adversary of the faith.

“It is forbidden (haram) to show support for such enemies,” Shirazi said, urging Muslims worldwide to take a stand. “It is necessary for Muslims everywhere to make those responsible for these threats regret their actions,” he added.

The religious ruling, while not legally binding, holds significant influence in Shia-majority nations where Islamic jurisprudence is integrated into governance. In this case, the fatwa is seen as a direct response to Trump’s recent claim that he personally spared Khamenei’s life during the latest escalation.

During the 12-day Israel-Iran conflict that erupted earlier this month, Israeli leaders did not shy away from making personal threats toward Iran’s top cleric. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated publicly that his military had been actively hunting Khamenei, and suggested that had they located him, they would have killed him.

Khamenei disappeared from public view during the peak of the Israeli bombardment on June 13, which targeted Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and killed several high-ranking Iranian commanders and scientists. Netanyahu, too, hinted that eliminating Khamenei was on the table, stating Israel was “doing what we need to do” to neutralize threats from Tehran.
