Israel has sent a strong warning after a new missile threat from Yemen.

“Whoever fires at the State of Israel will pay a heavy price,” said Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. His warning came after Houthi forces in Yemen launched ballistic missiles at Israel earlier this week.

In response, Israeli airstrikes hit Sanaa International Airport, destroying its main runway. According to Al Masirah TV, linked to the Houthis, the strikes came just one day after Yemen launched two missiles at Israel.

The attack caused serious damage. Reuters reported that several civilian planes belonging to Yemenia Airways were destroyed. Khaled al-Shaief, the airport’s director, said that all civilian planes were “completely destroyed.” He estimated losses at around $500 million.

One of the destroyed planes was supposed to take pilgrims to Mecca for the Hajj, reported Al Jazeera. Now, there may be no flights available for those passengers.

Despite the civilian toll, Katz called the airport a “terror target.” He confirmed that Israel had destroyed the “last aircraft remaining.” Israel says the airport is used by the Houthis and Iran for military operations.

The violence shows no signs of stopping. Yemen’s Houthi leadership says it will keep supporting Gaza. Israel, in turn, says it will go after Houthi leaders, including Abdul-Malik al-Houthi and other top officials.

As both sides trade attacks, civilians are suffering. Flights are grounded, airports are in ruins, and tensions are rising across the region.

  1. A ‘heavy price’ should not mean a bombing here or a bombing there. Israel should carpet bomb Yemen if need be. Turn it into another Dresden. Stop playing games Israel. Get the job done.
