In a moment of profound symbolism and hopeful diplomacy, Israeli President Isaac Herzog welcomed a delegation of imams and Muslim community leaders from across Europe to the President’s Residence in Jerusalem on Monday morning. The meeting, which was organized by the European Leadership Network (ELNET)—a pro-Israel European advocacy group—brought together Muslim leaders from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and the United Kingdom for a heartfelt and strategic dialogue on peace, tolerance, and the future of Muslim-Jewish relations.

As reported by World Israel News, the gathering came at a critical juncture, with antisemitism surging across Western nations, including within some European Muslim communities. Against this backdrop, the president stressed the significance of building personal relationships and advancing the shared Abrahamic heritage between Jews and Muslims.

“You represent the silent majority in the Middle East,” Herzog told the delegation. “We are all children of Abraham, and I believe the historic progress in our region is a progress of dialogue—between Muslims and Jews, and Jews and Muslims.”

Herzog’s message resonated deeply with the visitors, many of whom have taken public stands against Islamic extremism and antisemitism in their home countries. According to the information provided in the World Israel News report, the president emphasized that Israel’s Arab and Muslim citizens are not outsiders but “an integral part of Israeli society,” contributing in every sector from medicine and academia to politics and national defense.

The visit was both political and deeply personal. In a moving conclusion to the meeting, the delegation joined Herzog in a prayer for peace and sang lines from Israel’s national anthem, Hatikvah. “Bring back to your communities a message of peace,” Herzog urged. “I hope that peace will come with Syria, with Lebanon, inshallah even with Saudi Arabia, and that we will continue moving forward.”

The delegation was led by Imam Hassen Chalghoumi, Chairman of the Conference of Imams of France and spiritual leader of the Drancy Mosque near Paris. Chalghoumi has long stood as a courageous voice against Islamist radicalism and antisemitism in Europe. Speaking with clarity and conviction, he told Herzog: “What we have witnessed since October 7th is not merely a conflict between Israel and Hamas, nor between Israel and Hezbollah—the so-called ‘Party of Satan’. Rather, it is a confrontation between two fundamentally different worlds.”

“You,” Chalghoumi continued, “represent the world of brotherhood, of humanity, of compassion. You stand for the values of democracy and liberty.”

As the report at World Israel News highlighted, Chalghoumi’s condemnation of Hezbollah, Iran’s most prominent proxy terror group, marked a significant moral and political stance. His play on the group’s Arabic name—”Hezbollah” or “Party of Allah”—by renaming it the “Party of Satan,” was a striking rhetorical gesture, one that underscored the moral clarity he believes must accompany any sincere peace effort.

Chalghoumi also offered a heartfelt expression of solidarity with the Jewish people, praying for the safe return of Israeli hostages and an end to the suffering of innocent civilians on all sides of the conflict. “My message to you is one of deep affection—for you and for your remarkable people,” he said.

The significance of the meeting, as reported by World Israel News, lies not only in its diplomatic value but in its powerful symbolism.
