New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced Monday his efforts to arrange a sit-down with President-elect Donald Trump, signaling a potential shift in his approach to the incoming administration. Adams also hinted that he may attend Trump’s inauguration, the NY Post reported.

Adams revealed that his First Deputy Mayor, Maria Torres-Springer, had recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to engage with Trump’s transition team. According to the NY Post, the trip aimed to secure a face-to-face meeting between Adams and Trump to discuss the mayor’s vision for New York City.

“We’re ready,” Adams, a Democrat, said during a press conference. “This is his home city. We’re going to sit down and reach out. We want to have a conversation about some of our plans for the city.”

Adams’ outreach to Trump reflects a stark contrast to the often-hostile dynamic between the former president and New York leaders during Trump’s first term. The NY Post reported that Trump’s victory in the 2024 election has already prompted some Empire State Democrats to reconsider their approach.

Former Mayor, the psychotic Bill De Blasio mocked President Trump, even during the pandemic, and refused to work with the leader of the free world, instead mocked him with nick name “Don the Con”, as he let his city be over run with BLM insurrectionists, De Blasio focused on more COVID restrictions, imprisoning a city of 8 million people , to the point where you were only able to leave your home if you were participating in a BLM riot.

Shortly after his win, Trump had a productive conversation with Governor Kathy Hochul. The NY Post noted their discussion focused on making significant improvements to Penn Station and the city’s subway system, with both leaders expressing interest in collaboration.

Adams’ willingness to engage with Trump could indicate a similar desire for cooperation, though it also raises questions about his political strategy ahead of his reelection bid.

A potential meeting with Trump may carry implications not just for the city but for Adams personally, the NY Post reported. The mayor is currently facing a federal corruption investigation, and some insiders believe Trump’s presidency could benefit his defense.

Trump has publicly criticized the case against Adams, calling it an overreach by federal prosecutors, and has suggested he would consider granting the mayor a pardon. Adams, meanwhile, has drawn attention for embracing a harder stance on immigration following a meeting with Tom Homan, Trump’s incoming border czar.

When asked about the potential political risks of aligning with Trump, Adams brushed off concerns. “My core is still diverse and supportive,” he told reporters. “I’ve done nothing wrong, and my attorney is pursuing justice wherever possible.”

Adams remained vague about whether he would attend Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, which falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. However, he indicated that he plans to be in Washington, D.C., for MLK-related events, including one hosted by Rev. Al Sharpton, the NY Post reported.

“I’m still trying to figure out if they’ll let me go, but either way, I think I’ll be in D.C.,” Adams said.

As the NY Post highlighted, Adams’ outreach to Trump underscores a pragmatic approach to addressing New York City’s challenges. Whether his efforts lead to meaningful collaboration—or controversy—remains to be seen.
