In what is being described as a record-breaking case of abuse and exploitation, former top urologist Dr. Darius Paduch now faces lawsuits from 310 male patients, making it the largest known case involving male victims and a single abuser. According to a report in The New York Post, the harrowing details of his years-long reign of terror have shocked the medical community and beyond, with new allegations surfacing that Paduch exploited “thousands of victims and survivors,” according to legal filings. The former urologist, who worked at prestigious institutions like Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University, and Northwell Health Systems, is now recognized as a predator whose abuse spanned across age groups, from minors to retirees.

The legitimacy and authority conferred upon him by these institutions provided the perfect cover for his grooming campaign. Patients trusted him not only because of his medical expertise but also because of the reputations of the hospitals and universities with which he was affiliated.

Paduch, once a trusted and revered urologist in New York City, used his position and reputation to groom and exploit male patients over the course of years. The sheer scale of his abuse, according to the latest court filings, is almost unimaginable, with new allegations bringing the total number of victims in the civil lawsuits to 310, The Post report said. Lawyers involved in the case believe the actual number of victims could be in the thousands, making Paduch one of the most prolific abusers in modern medical history.

Paduch’s crimes were systematic, calculated, and deeply sadistic. His victims came from all walks of life, from elderly retirees to minors, many of whom were unsuspecting and vulnerable. The report in The Post said that what they all shared was a trust in Paduch’s authority as a medical professional, a trust he violated in the most horrific ways. He often performed invasive procedures under the guise of necessary medical examinations but with the clear intention to humiliate and abuse his patients.

The disturbing accounts documented in Manhattan Supreme Court reveal the extent of Paduch’s cruelty. The former urologist allegedly subjected his victims to unspeakable procedures, including injecting a serum into their genitals to induce prolonged erections, as per the information provided in The Post report. These injections were not medically necessary and left many victims in pain and suffering for extended periods.

One of Paduch’s favored methods of abuse involved penile enlargements, which led to disfigurement and physical trauma. In some instances, victims were forced to endure cystoscopies—an invasive procedure where a tube is inserted through the urethra—without any form of anesthesia. As was noted in The Post report, this type of procedure without proper pain management is not only medically inappropriate but also constitutes a form of torture, as the patients were left in excruciating pain.

In perhaps the most humiliating and degrading acts, Paduch forced some of his patients to get on all fours during what he claimed were medical examinations. In shocking detail, The Post reported that during these sessions, court papers describe how Paduch would walk around the room with a pen, pointing at different parts of his patients’ exposed bodies, mimicking the behavior of a professor instructing a class. This behavior was not only abusive but demonstrated Paduch’s complete lack of empathy and his desire to dominate and humiliate his patients for his own perverse satisfaction.

The mother of one victim, a minor at the time of the abuse, expressed her heartbreak and devastation upon learning of what her child had endured. The Post reported that in a statement provided by plaintiff lawyer Anthony T. DiPietro, she said, “Learning of what happened on those visits has nearly killed me.” Her grief echoes the unimaginable pain felt by hundreds of families whose loved ones were subjected to Paduch’s abuse.

Court papers have revealed that Paduch used his high-ranking positions and medical prestige as part of his grooming strategy, manipulating his patients into believing that his procedures were medically necessary or beneficial. The Post reported that this veneer of respectability allowed him to continue his abuse unchecked for years, leaving many to question how these institutions failed to detect his actions sooner. The allegations suggest that a culture of silence may have enabled Paduch, as victims felt powerless to challenge a doctor of his stature, especially given the institutions backing him.

“Patients trust these so-called ‘top hospitals’ to provide safe and proper medical care for deeply personal conditions. Patients don’t go into a medical office thinking they are going to be exploited by some deviant criminal in a white lab coat,” DiPietro said, as was reported by The Post.

One heartbreaking patient saw Paduch for more than a decade, starting when he was just 7 years old. Another victim was 13, the papers say. The Post also reported that one victim said Paduch squeezed his penis so hard that “it was bruised for weeks afterwards,” the documents say. Another plaintiff claimed the doctor prescribed so much needless medicine to him that he went into liver failure.

While a 56-year-old patient lay on an exam table, “Paduch unzipped his pants” and told the man that “he wanted him to see what an erect penis looked like,” court papers say, as was indicated in The Post report.

Paduch’s reign of abuse came to an end in April 2023 when he was arrested. The report in The Post indicated that just one month later, in May 2023, he was criminally convicted on 13 counts of sexual abuse in federal court. Paduch now faces up to 60 years in prison, but for many of his victims, the trauma inflicted by his actions will last a lifetime.

The criminal conviction marked an important step toward justice for the victims, but the legal battle is far from over. The civil lawsuits continue to pile up, with 150 new plaintiffs joining the case in the most recent wave of filings. The report added that these lawsuits not only seek financial compensation for the victims but also seek to expose the full scope of Paduch’s actions and the systemic failures that allowed his abuse to persist.

As more victims come forward, the magnitude of the case grows. What was once a shocking story of medical abuse has now become a national reckoning on the trust we place in healthcare professionals and the need for better safeguards to protect patients from predators hiding in plain sight.

  1. WOW, the hospitals knew about this scumbag doctor’s actions and ignored it. Not the first time for New York Presbityerian either (Hadden). Greed at play for sure. Disgusting! I’ll be switching my son over to NYU and Mount Sinai when he needs specialists. I hope Paduch rots in prison and that NYP and Northwell go bankrupt!
