NYC Overrun by Migrant Crime Surge: 75% of Arrests Tied to Migrants as Sanctuary Laws Paralyze NYPD

(TJV) In a story that won’t be highlighted by mainstream media, recent NYPD arrests reveal that 75% of those detained for crimes like assault, robbery, and domestic violence in Midtown Manhattan are migrants. In Queens, the figure is closer to 60%, according to the New York Post, which cites police sources.

Each day, criminal court dockets in New York City are filled with asylum seekers who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law. The situation is exacerbated by sanctuary city laws, which prevent NYPD officers from collaborating with ICE, even when they believe suspects are in the country illegally. Additionally, police are restricted from tracking offenders’ immigration status. The Post report indicates that these sanctuary laws make it “almost impossible” for law enforcement to deal with the surge in crime.

Jim Quinn, a former prosecutor for the Queens District Attorney’s Office, was outspoken about the issue: “New York City eliminated a tool to get rid of violent criminals. What a mess,” he said, describing the sanctuary city law as “pathetic,” “disgusting,” and “crazy.”

According to police sources, word has spread within the migrant community about New York’s lenient approach to crime, leading many offenders to quickly return to the streets after arrest. One Bronx officer mentioned that even if migrants are jailed, they’re unfazed, laughing off their sentences. “Where they come from, they get tortured in jail,” the officer noted.

The situation has gotten so dire that Mayor Eric Adams is now urging the City Council to amend the sanctuary laws. Last week, he emphasized, “We don’t have the authorization to coordinate with ICE. We have to follow the law.”

While the NYPD confirmed that overall crime may have declined last year, a spokesperson reiterated that officers are prohibited from inquiring about the immigration status of anyone involved in a crime—be it victims, witnesses, or suspects—so the department doesn’t track immigration data.

However, one Midtown officer estimated that about 75% of arrests in the area are migrants, particularly for robbery, assault, domestic violence, and selling counterfeit goods. Another officer from Manhattan said the arrest rate for migrants is “easily” 75%, noting that they tend to target upscale stores like Lululemon and Sunglass Hut.

The courts are also feeling the pressure, with so many migrant cases on the docket that extra Spanish interpreters are often needed. One Queens court officer commented, “Come on Mondays! Almost every case is a migrant.” Among these cases are gang-related violence and heinous sexual assaults.

For instance, Venezuelan migrant Yurlex Daniel Guzman Quintero was recently arraigned in Queens for allegedly choking his girlfriend and threatening her with a knife in front of her child. That same day, Dionisio Moran Flores, another migrant, was arraigned in Manhattan for allegedly raping his 5-year-old daughter. He was held on $150,000 bail.

The Post also reports that Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua has established a presence in New York City, already linked to hundreds of crimes, including the June shooting of two NYPD officers. The gang is reportedly smuggling weapons into city-run shelters, hiding them in food delivery bags to avoid detection.

One law enforcement source blamed the Biden-Harris administration’s open-border policies, combined with New York’s sanctuary laws, for the rise in crime. “Crime would be down significantly if there was a wall and we could account for everyone who enters the country,” the source said.
