- Governor Cuomo spoke mainly today about the need to increase the amount of hospital beds with ventilators and waving regulations to create additional hospital beds. Also important is the increase of staff, from nursing schools, medial schools and retired professionals. Also on his agenda was converting areas into hospital space.
- Cuomo, during a press conference Wednesday, said that the president agreed to dispatch the USNS Comfort hospital ship, which the Pentagon offered as part of the domestic response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The USNS Comfort has 1,000 beds and is run by military personnel, according to the U.S. Naval Institute.
- Cuomo stressed Federal government assistance and working together with President Trump. He commended Trump for his work during this pandemic and said Trump has been “creative and energetic” and thankful for the partnership.
- Also stressed was the need for density reduction, which is occurring by working from home, school closures, reduced state and local workforce, and the closure of restaurants, bars, movie houses etc. These steps must stay in action to reduce the infection curve including the entire tri-state area having the same policies. The big take away no more than 50% of any company workforce can leave home, with some exceptions.
- Also covered was the current number of cases in NY state which is 2,382 and 20 deaths. He also stressed that only 549 of cases are hospitalized and 108 people have been dismissed from hospital care.
