(AP) — The Indiana Pacers are just one win away from reaching the NBA Finals. They’ve already won twice at Madison Square Garden in this series and have a chance to close it out in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Thursday night.

Despite their fast-paced play, the Pacers are staying focused and not looking too far ahead.

We’re still pretty young, so we’re learning through experience,” said coach Rick Carlisle. “We’ve got to stay in the moment. Keep our eye on the ball and go day to day.”

Haliburton Makes History

Indiana took a 3-1 lead with a 130-121 win on Tuesday. Tyrese Haliburton had 32 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds — all without a turnover. According to NBA stats tracked since 1977-78, it was the first 30-15-10 game in the postseason with zero turnovers.

The Pacers now have three chances to reach the NBA Finals for just the second time in team history. Their only other appearance was in 2000 when they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Indiana, the No. 4 seed in the East, is 11-3 in the postseason. They’ve only lost in each series’ Game 3 and are currently on a six-game road win streak — two shy of the NBA postseason record.

Fast-Break Attack, Focused Mindset

In Game 4, Indiana scored 22 fast-break points and ran past the Knicks. Still, Haliburton expects a tough fight in New York.

You can feel good for the night, but then you’ve got to be ready,” Haliburton said. “Their backs are against the wall. They’re going to come out swinging, and we have to respond.”

Knicks Face Elimination

The Knicks have pulled off major comebacks before — including three 20-point rallies this postseason. But now they face a tougher challenge: becoming just the 14th team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit.

We’ve found ways to do the impossible,” said forward Karl-Anthony Towns. “Now we’re in the biggest fight of our season, and it starts with the next game.”

Towns is questionable for Game 5 due to a bruised left knee. He was hurt in Game 4 but managed to finish the game.

Knicks Adjusting Tactics

Coach Tom Thibodeau has experimented with his lineup. He played Mitchell Robinson alongside Towns and reached deeper into the bench to slow down Indiana’s offense. The Pacers have scored over 130 points twice in this series — and did so last year in Game 7 of the East semifinals with a playoff-record 67.1% shooting.

Turnovers hurt the Knicks in Game 4. They gave up 17, leading to 20 Pacers points. Even when their defense was set, they allowed easy baskets. They’ll need to clean that up to force a Game 6 back in Indiana on Saturday.

“I’ve never known this team to quit,” said forward Josh Hart. “We’re competitors. Our backs are against the wall, but we’re going to fight until the series is over.”
