(TJV NEWS)v Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania is facing a wave of criticism from progressives following his outspoken support for Israel in its war against Hamas—a position that has sharply alienated many on the left.

As Gateway Pundit pointed out, Fetterman’s unwavering pro-Israel stance has become a flashpoint issue among progressives, who increasingly view support for Palestine as a political litmus test.

Initially, during his 2022 Senate run, it was conservatives who raised concerns about Fetterman’s health following a serious stroke. Liberals, by contrast, defended him and downplayed the severity of his condition. Now, the political tides appear to be shifting: while many conservatives have been surprised—if not pleased—by his strong backing of Israel, some on the left are beginning to distance themselves from the freshman senator.

A new New York Magazine exposé, titled “All By Himself: John Fetterman insists he is in good health, but staffers past and present say they no longer recognize the man they once knew,” has reignited public scrutiny. The piece explores not only Fetterman’s health and behavior on Capitol Hill, but also alleged tensions within his family and staff related to his pro-Israel positions.

According to the report, several of Fetterman’s current and former staffers feel betrayed by his political shift. After he voiced support for Israel following the October 7 Hamas attacks, some aides reportedly expressed their disillusionment in a letter accusing him of a “gutting betrayal.” The article further claims that his wife, Gisele Fetterman, confronted him directly, asking, “How can you support this?” in reference to Israeli strikes in Gaza.

Adding to the controversy, the piece cites a Senate physician who allegedly described Fetterman’s behavior in late 2023 as “bizarre,” noting that he had not undergone recent medical tests. Gisele Fetterman reportedly also raised concerns with staff over her husband’s well-being and political choices.

Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan weighed in on social media, arguing that the revelations are alarming enough that Senate Democrats should reconsider Fetterman’s place in the chamber. “Every Senate Democrat should read this and be asked about it,” Hasan wrote.

As Gateway Pundit noted, the progressive base’s discontent could eventually lead to a primary challenge against Fetterman when his term is up. His stance on Israel has placed him squarely at odds with much of the Democratic Party’s activist wing, which may now see him as out of step with its values.
