From Woke to Joke: De Blasio’s Radical Cronies Scramble for Power in Mamdani’s NYC Revolution

Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio — infamous for defanging the NYPD, decriminalizing quality-of-life offenses, and turning the city into a progressive dystopia — is now reportedly angling for a return to relevance by cozying up to socialist firebrand Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for mayor.

As the New York Post reported, de Blasio and his inner circle of far-left loyalists are whispering in Mamdani’s ear, angling for influence and, sources say, potential spots in a future Mamdani administration. The Post says the failed presidential candidate has become an informal adviser to the radical Queens assemblyman, hoping to ride his shocking primary win into a second act in City Hall.

“He’s just trying to get his name back in the papers,” one insider told the Post. “Technically, they’re advising, but not to the extent they’re boasting. It’s about relevance, not real influence.”

Among those lobbying hardest is Patrick Gaspard, de Blasio’s longtime ally and a Democratic power broker with deep ties to unions and national politics. Gaspard — who once served as political director of the SEIU 1199, a U.S. Ambassador under Obama, and the White House Director of Political Affairs — helped engineer Mamdani’s recent appearance with Rev. Al Sharpton at the National Action Network. Gaspard, sources say, is not just advising Mamdani but actively auditioning for a senior role in his possible administration.

Mamdani — a member of the Democratic Socialists of America with little executive experience — raised eyebrows when he called de Blasio “the best mayor of his lifetime” in a New York Times interview. For New Yorkers who lived through de Blasio’s reign, that statement signals either delusion or danger.

As the Post pointed out, others in the de Blasio orbit who are now circling Mamdani’s campaign include Camille Rivera of New Deal Strategies, former Deputy Mayor Emma Wolfe, universal pre-K architect Josh Wallach, and ex-Census official Amit Bagga.

Critics warn Mamdani is falling into a familiar trap — recycling the very figures who helped wreck the city in the first place. “He has a real opportunity to bring in fresh energy and thinking to build a more modern government for NYC,” one political operative told the Post. “That will never happen with de Blasio retreads.”

De Blasio’s mayoralty is widely viewed as a cautionary tale. Under his progressive leadership, the NYPD was stripped of its tools, “broken windows” policing was gutted, and minor offenses — from fare evasion and shoplifting to prostitution and open drug use — were effectively decriminalized. The result? A catastrophic breakdown in public order, spiraling crime, and plummeting quality of life. His embrace of Black Lives Matter protesters — even as they torched police vehicles and looted stores during the 2020 riots — cemented his image as a mayor who sided with chaos over citizens.

Adding insult to injury, de Blasio governed like a petty tyrant during COVID, pushing vaccine mandates with religious zeal, coercing public employees into compliance, and treating dissenters as enemies of the state.  The communist monster assailed Orthodox Jews who wanted to assemble for religious gatherings during the pandemic, leading to a revolt against De Blasio on the streets of Borough Park.

The irony is rich now that he’s trying to worm his way into another administration — this time led by a 33-year-old ideologue with even less patience for dissent.

Zohran Mamdani, whose platform includes radical housing policies, defunding police, and reimagining capitalism itself, is no moderate. Pairing his socialist vision with de Blasio’s failed leadership formula could prove toxic — and politically suicidal. To top it all off, the “Z man” is a supporter of the “intifada”, a hater of Zionism, Judaism, and poses the biggest threat to Jews NYC has ever seen.

On social media, de Blasio and his girlfriend, political gadfly Nomiki Konst, have gone full-throttle in support of Mamdani. De Blasio recently posted on X (formerly Twitter), “If they want to remind everyday New Yorkers that @ZohranKMamdani is on their side, this is the PERFECT way to do it,” cheering Mamdani’s opposition to Manhattan’s donor class.

Konst, meanwhile, dismissed critiques of Mamdani’s lack of experience as elitist attacks. But experience — and competence — is exactly what critics say Mamdani lacks, especially if he relies on de Blasio’s old playbook.

As the New York Post rightly observed, Mamdani would be wise to avoid filling City Hall with “woke fossils” whose track record is one of ideological excess, administrative failure, and public betrayal. Eric Adams inherited a city hollowed out by de Blasio’s blunders. If Mamdani takes the same path — but leans in harder — he may finish what de Blasio started: the complete unraveling of New York.
