(TJV NEWS) CNN has confirmed that six U.S. service members were killed Sunday morning when an Iranian projectile struck a makeshift operations center at the Shuaiba port in Kuwait. The facility, described by a source familiar with the situation as a triple-wide trailer used as tactical office space, was hit directly just after 9 a.m. local time.
According to U.S. Central Command, the death toll increased to six after two additional remains were recovered from the strike site. Earlier reports from the military had confirmed three initial fatalities before additional personnel were accounted for.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters that a single projectile managed to penetrate existing air defenses and impact what was called a “fortified” tactical operations center. However, military sources told CNN that there were no warning sirens or alerts before the attack, giving those inside no time to take cover.
The structure was heavily damaged in the blast, with its interior scorched and walls blown outward, according to the source. Satellite imagery from Sunday appeared to show the building engulfed in smoke following the strike.
This incident marks the first confirmed combat deaths of U.S. troops in the broader conflict between the United States and Iran, as part of a military operation that includes strikes designed to counter Iranian weapons capabilities. Eighteen other U.S. service members have been reported seriously wounded in the broader campaign.
U.S. Central Command has not yet released the identities of the six killed, and families are still being notified. Both military officials and national leaders have indicated that further casualties may occur as the conflict continues.
