(TJV) On Monday, Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson announced attempted murder charges against ten suspects accused of launching a violent, coordinated assault on ICE officers at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. Authorities allege the attackers are part of a North Texas Antifa-affiliated cell targeting federal law enforcement.
According to the criminal complaint, the suspects arrived in black military-style gear, launched fireworks at the facility, and vandalized property before escalating to gunfire. One Alvarado police officer was shot in the neck, while another gunman opened fire on unarmed correctional officers outside the building.

Each defendant is charged with three counts of attempted murder of federal agents and three counts of discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.
Authorities recovered AR-style rifles, twelve sets of body armor, and two-way radios. A cache of far-left propaganda was also discovered, including flyers reading “FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR!” and “FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS,” along with a flag that read “RESIST FASCISM – FIGHT OLIGARCHY.” One suspect carried multiple phones inside a Faraday bag, which is used to block GPS signals, a common tactic in criminal operations to avoid tracking.

Acting U.S. Attorney Larson said:
“Make no mistake, this was not a peaceful protest. This was an ambush on federal and local law enforcement. The growing trend of violence from radical extremist groups will not be tolerated.”
FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock echoed the sentiment:
“This attack underscores the real danger our officers face. The FBI will pursue those responsible for threatening law enforcement and seek full accountability.”
Josh Johnson, ICE ERO Dallas Acting Field Director, stated:
“This type of vigilante lawlessness is emblematic of the increasing dangers law enforcement faces daily. Our officers will not be intimidated.”
Law enforcement documented the scene thoroughly, photographing graffiti, ammunition magazines, and left-wing extremist material. Investigators continue to assess whether the suspects had outside coordination or ties to broader extremist networks.
The incident marks a stark escalation in politically motivated violence against federal institutions, with officials warning that ideologically driven attacks will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
