False Reporting Targets Charedi Orthodox Men for Alleged Discrimination on United Flight

Edited by:  TJVNews.com

In a recent turn of events, a false story published by Israeli Channel 13 News journalist Neria Kraus has ignited a firestorm of controversy, showcasing the power and impact of misinformation in the digital age, as was reported on the Yeshiva World News web site. The incident centers around an alleged discrimination incident on a United Airlines flight involving Haredi Orthodox men and a passenger who reported feeling discriminated against.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday when Neria Kraus posted a story on Twitter, claiming that she had experienced religious discrimination by Haredi Orthodox men during a flight, the YWN report noted. The story quickly gained traction, catching the attention of left-wing media outlets that amplified it to an even wider audience, the YWN report added. The narrative tapped into sensitive subjects such as “Chareidim” and “religious discrimination against women,” garnering considerable attention and outrage.

However, blogger Daniel Amram quickly unraveled the story’s fabrications, revealing the true version of events, according to the YWN report. Right-wing media outlets soon reported the accurate details of the incident, which starkly contrasted with Kraus’s original account. The YWN report also indicated that despite these revelations, the initial damage had already been done, and left-wing media outlets remained hesitant to retract a story that had generated substantial interest.

Even the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA), an English-language news agency, published the story with the headline: “Israeli Journalist Says Haredi Orthodox Men Discriminated Against Her On A United Flight,” the YWN report said. This highlights the tendency for media outlets, even reputable ones, to perpetuate narratives without thorough fact-checking.

In light of the false report, Dan from the DansDeals website took it upon himself to investigate the incident and uncover the truth, as was reported by the YWN web site. After speaking with Nigel M., the individual targeted by Kraus’s allegations, and corroborating his account with witnesses Sol and Eva C., it became evident that the original story was indeed a gross fabrication.

The witnesses confirmed that Kraus had initially agreed to switch seats with Nigel before retracting her offer once she saw his yarmulka. The YWN report said that witnesses recalled Kraus becoming agitated and actively spreading false information throughout the flight. When confronted by a flight attendant, she reportedly continued to propagate her unfounded claims, as was reported by YWN.

This incident underscores the critical role of responsible reporting and fact-checking in today’s media landscape. The power of social media and the rapid dissemination of information can lead to substantial harm when misinformation takes center stage. As millions of people had already been exposed to Kraus’s inaccurate account, the later corroborated version may never fully counteract the initial impact, the report noted.

The incident serves as a reminder for consumers of news to critically evaluate the sources of information and consider multiple perspectives before forming opinions. The complexities of this case reveal the challenges of addressing biased or false narratives, particularly in an era where information can spread like wildfire with just a few clicks.
