(Jewish Voice News) A 33-year-old man, Oscar Solarzano, has been arrested in connection with a stabbing Friday night aboard the Charlotte Area Transit System’s Blue Line light rail in North Carolina, according to WCNC.

Mecklenburg EMS transported the victim to a hospital with what authorities described as serious injuries.

President Donald Trump weighed in on the attack, pointing to the recent fatal stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska — killed months earlier on the same transit system by a career criminal — as he blasted Democratic leadership in the city.

“Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina. What’s going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!!!” Trump wrote.

Citizen journalist Matt Van Swol — a former nuclear scientist and high-profile brand photographer — noted that Solarzano, who has been deported previously, was identified as a “white male” in arrest documentation despite being an undocumented immigrant.

According to WCNC, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers “quickly apprehended” Solarzano. He now faces a slate of charges: attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and intoxicated and disruptive behavior.

Court filings reviewed by WCNC state that Solarzano was intoxicated, challenged the victim to a fight, and yelled at other riders prior to the stabbing.

A witness told WCNC that chaos erupted on the train: “I heard people starting to scream ‘he has a knife, they’re fighting,’ and then [the victim who was stabbed] started walking towards the side I was sitting on, holding his chest where he got stabbed. I was able to see the emergency lever, so I pulled it and the doors opened, and that stopped the train and I jumped off.”

An attorney representing the family of Iryna Zarutska also criticized the transit system, arguing that the latest attack underscores long-standing security failures.

“The fact that there was another stabbing on the light rail committed by someone who had apparently been banned continues to show that there is no fare enforcement on our light rail system. Clearly security is still lacking to protect our citizen riders of our public transportation,” the attorney said.
