Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize last week, presenting him with a copy of the letter he submitted to the prize committee in Washington D.C. on Monday evening.

Trump is “forging peace, as we speak, in one country, in one region after the other,” Netanyahu said during a dinner with Trump in the White House’s Blue Room.

“So, I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee; it’s nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved, and you should get it.”

Trump appeared surprised by the announcement, reaching across the table to take the letter from Netanyahu.

“I want to express the appreciation and admiration not only of all Israelis, but of the Jewish people,” Netanyahu said as he gave the letter to Trump. “You deserve it.”

“Coming from you in particular, this is very meaningful,” Trump replied.

In the letter to the Nobel Peace Prize committee, which was dated July 1st, Netanyahu lauded Trump’s “steadfast and exceptional dedication to promoting peace, security, and stability around the world.”

Netanyahu highlighted Trump’s achievements, stressing that the establishment of the Abraham Accords was critical for stabilizing the region.

“These groundbreaking agreements…reshaped the Middle East and marked a historic advance towards peace and security,” the letter reads.

“President Trump’s vision and bold leadership promoted innovative diplomacy defined not by conflict and extremism but by cooperation, dialogue, and shared prosperity,” Netanyahu wrote.

“Few leaders have achieved such tangible breakthroughs to peace in such a short time…I can think of no one more deserving than President Trump of the Nobel Peace Prize,” the letter concluded.

In late June, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

He cited Trump’s role in defusing tensions between Pakistan and India, crediting the president with preventing a full-scale war from breaking out.
