Kolkata Police traveled over 900 miles to arrest 22-year-old Hindu law student Sharmistha for criticizing Pakistan – enforcing Islamic blasphemy laws to appease a violent Muslim mob and silence dissent. RAIR Foundation is in contact with her family and will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds.

A Pretrial Prisoner, Abused
Sharmishta sits in Alipore Women’s Correctional Home, in rapidly declining health. Her legal team confirms that she has kidney stones, is denied proper hygiene, and is not even allowed access to basic reading materials. She’s being isolated, muzzled, and humiliated. All for expressing grief and outrage over a terror attack that the world has conveniently forgotten.
Sharmishta hasn’t been convicted of anything. She is an unconvicted, pretrial prisoner, yet she is being treated worse than hardened criminals. Her attorney, Md Samimuddin, has filed an urgent plea over the inhumane conditions she is being subjected to. “Proper hygiene is not being maintained. She is unwell,” he said. “We’re trying to get her out before June 13.”

June 1, 2025: BREAKING: India’s Top Legal Authority Speaks Out for Sharmistha
Manan Kumar Mishra – Chairman of the Bar Council of India and Member of Parliament – has issued a blistering statement condemning Sharmistha’s arrest as a blatant assault on free speech and a selective, politically motivated abuse of justice.
He demands her immediate release and calls out Bengal’s government and police for shielding those who incite violence against Hindus, while punishing a young law student for expressing dissent.
This is a major turning point. We thank Chairman Mishra for standing on the side of truth and constitutional rights.

June 1, 2025: Rashidi Foundation
Why are Sharia enforcers from the Rashidi Foundation still roaming free, while Sharmistha, a 22-year-old Hindu law student, is behind bars? Hindus are no longer safe in Islamized India.
One of the most alarming aspects of Sharmistha’s arrest is the Rashidi Foundation’s public celebration of their role in it. This Islamic group didn’t just support her arrest—they orchestrated it. In a chilling video, members proudly declared: “We cannot tolerate a single word against the Prophet… We are always ready to sacrifice our lives.” They bragged about pressuring authorities “day and night” and praised the Kolkata Police for complying with their demands.
This wasn’t justice, it was blasphemy law enforcement, led by radicals and backed by the state.
The video didn’t stop at celebration—it delivered a threat. The group warned all of India to stay silent or face the same fate. They mocked Sharmistha, twisted her name in open court, issued public threats, and delivered what can only be described as a nationwide jihad warning. This isn’t about hurting religious feelings. It’s not about respect. It’s ideological warfare.
The Rashidi Foundation now operates as a Sharia enforcement body on Indian soil, acting as judge, jury, and executioner. And the Indian state complied. By bowing to their demands, India crossed a dangerous line—from a secular democracy to a system ruled by Islamic rage mobs and mob-enforced blasphemy law.
Where is the outrage? Where are the defenders of free speech? Where are the so-called “moderate” Muslims condemning this? Nowhere. And that silence speaks volumes.
Let’s be clear: Islam is the only so-called religion that demands execution for even a perceived insult against its prophet or book. This isn’t fringe. This is mainstream doctrine, rooted in the Quran, the Hadith, and the actions of Muhammad himself.
And when someone like Sharmistha dares to call out Islamic terror or Pakistani atrocities, the mob doesn’t target the killers—they come for her.
To those lecturing Sharmistha or Hindus with “Don’t insult religion”—enough. Free societies are supposed to allow criticism of religion without threats, violence, or imprisonment. Hindus are insulted and brutalized every day—in India, in Pakistan, and across the West. Imams in America vilify them. Pakistani officials justify their murders. Western media mocks them. But Hindus don’t riot. Hindus don’t demand blood.
Meanwhile, jihadists issue open rape and death threats and walk free. Yet Sharmistha, a 22-year-old Hindu law student, sits in jail for defending her people and speaking the truth about a massacre.
This isn’t justice. It’s surrender.
The Rashidi Foundation threatened India, and the state bowed in response. Sharmistha’s arrest proves it: Islamic rage now overrides Indian law.

UPDATE on Sharmistha’s Case – May 31, 2025
Sharmistha has been placed under judicial custody, meaning she is being sent to jail for at least the next few days while legal proceedings continue.
Here’s what happened:
- Police custody was denied: The court did not allow police to keep her for interrogation or further detention.
- Instead, she was placed in judicial custody, which means she’ll be held in a regular jail, not a police station.
- Her legal team applied for bail, but the court denied it.
- They also asked the judge to consolidate (or “club”) all the current legal complaints (FIRs, or First Information Reports) against her, including both known and potentially future ones, so that the case can be handled as a single matter. The judge has said they’ll consider it.
- As of now, 5 FIRs (official criminal complaints) have been filed against her for allegedly “offending Muslims.”
In short, Sharmistha is being treated like a criminal for speech, denied bail, and sent to jail – all for criticizing Pakistani terrorism and angering Islamic mobs online.
RAIR Foundation will continue to provide verified updates.

In a stunning display of selective justice, the Kolkata Police on Friday, May 30, arrested Sharmistha, a 22 year-old Hindu law student and social media influencer, who had been the target of a brutal online campaign of rape and beheading threats after she criticized Pakistani terrorism. Rather than investigating the Muslim social media users who openly incited violence against her, authorities traveled more than 1,500 kilometers to Gurgaon to arrest the victim herself.
Sharmistha was brought before Kolkata’s Alipore court under heavy police security, as if a terrorist had been captured.
The arrest comes just two weeks after Sharmistha, a student at Symbiosis Law School in Pune, posted a video calling out the denial and whitewashing of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir, in which 26 Hindus were executed by Islamic terrorists. The attackers, affiliated with The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the Pakistan-backed terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, reportedly confirmed the victims’ Hindu identities before shooting them at point-blank range.
Sharmistha’s video, intended as a direct response to a Pakistani woman on Instagram who dismissed the massacre, included harsh criticism and mockery aimed at those who deny or celebrate such atrocities. Her outrage, she later clarified, was directed at terrorists and their apologists, not at any religion.
Nevertheless, a coordinated dangerous online campaign was launched by Muslim users in both India and Pakistan, accusing her of insulting the Prophet Muhammad and calling for her arrest. The hashtag #ArrestSharmistha trended for days on X (formerly Twitter). At the same time, prominent Muslim figures – including AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) party chief Asaduddin Owaisi, his radical party spokesperson Waris Pathan, Islamic activist Mohammad Shadab Khan, and members of the radical online troll group Team Rising Falcon – amplified calls for Sharmistha’s arrest, pressuring police to act swiftly against her rather than against those issuing violent threats.

Threats of sexual assault, physical violence, and “Sar tan se juda” (beheading) filled her inbox. Radicals affiliated with Team Inspiretrail and the Skyway Foundation, a Pakistani organization, issued mob-style ultimatums, demanding Sharmistha’s arrest or threatening mass unrest. Members of these groups took to the streets, defaced images of her, and openly called for her execution, escalating the campaign of intimidation into real-world incitement.
In response to the mounting threats, Sharmistha removed the video and issued a public, unconditional apology. She wrote:
“I’m sorry… I have been trolled, threatened to be attacked and to be raped, murdered, and taught a lesson for venting my anger towards Radical Pakistani terrorists who killed my innocent countrymen in the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. I never intentionally wanted to hurt anybody. So if anybody is hurt, I’m sorry for the same. I expect cooperation and understanding. Henceforth, I will be cautious in my public posts.”
Despite her apology and the evident danger she faced, the Kolkata Police prioritized arresting her over investigating those who issued explicit threats. According to reports by activist Sunaina Holey, the police arrived in Gurgaon without the necessary warrant documentation but obtained a local magistrate’s order, which allowed for the arrest.
Sharmistha has since been transported to Kolkata and is expected to be presented before a magistrate on Saturday, May 31. Meanwhile, her family has rushed to be at the court appearance.
A Broader Pattern of Silencing Hindu Voices
This case follows a deeply disturbing pattern in India’s political and legal response to so-called “blasphemy” complaints. Rather than addressing the escalating threats posed by Islamic supremacists, law enforcement and left-wing and Muslim political leaders increasingly capitulate to Islamic outrage mobs, particularly when the accused are Hindu women.
In 2022, BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma faced a similar fate after quoting from Islamic texts during a televised debate. Despite quoting verified Hadiths about Prophet Muhammad’s marriage to Aisha, Sharma was met with global condemnation and threats of deadly violence. She was forced into hiding after Indian authorities filed multiple FIRs against her, while international Islamic leaders demanded her punishment.
Sharmistha’s arrest echoes this precedent: rather than defending a citizen facing calls for execution, the state has effectively punished her for surviving.
Questions of Double Standards and Selective Law Enforcement
The arrest also raises serious questions about the application of India’s laws and the independence of its institutions. Legal observers and civil rights activists have pointed out that those who issued rape and death threats against Sharmistha have not been arrested, let alone investigated. Many did so publicly, using real names and verified accounts.
The selective use of Sharia blasphemy laws and the growing willingness of Indian police to criminalize speech critical of Islam has drawn concern from free speech advocates, both domestically and abroad. Critics argue that such trends are undermining the core tenets of secularism, legal equality, and freedom of expression, especially when the violence being condemned, as in Sharmistha’s case, is factual and well-documented.
Waris Pathan, who publicly called for Sharmistha’s arrest, has remained silent on the Pahalgam massacre and has made no statements condemning the terrorists responsible. His selective outrage and political pressure contributed to the police response, which critics say is motivated more by fear of offending Islam than by any commitment to justice.
India submits to Islam
Sharmistha’s arrest represents a profound and deeply troubling inversion of justice. In what is meant to be a Hindu-majority democracy, a young woman who condemned Islamic terrorism, endured a torrent of credible rape and beheading threats, and issued an unconditional apology under duress, now finds herself behind bars. Her only “crime” was speaking the truth about jihadist violence.
Meanwhile, the Muslim radicals and leftist agitators who incited hatred, many of whom publicly called for her murder, remain untouched by law enforcement. Instead of upholding justice and protecting the victim, the Indian state has effectively enforced de facto Sharia blasphemy laws, abandoning the core principles of free speech, secular governance, and equal protection under the law.
This is not justice. This is capitulation. Indian authorities have willingly submitted to the threat of Islamic mob violence – a tactic repeatedly deployed to suppress dissent and criminalize criticism of Islam. The message is clear: in today’s India, Islamic rage commands more obedience than the Constitution.
This is no longer the behavior of a secular democracy. It is the creeping emergence of a two-tiered legal system, one in which Islamic outrage dictates state action, and truth-tellers are punished to appease religious mobs.
The world must take note. If India continues down this path, the day is fast approaching when truth itself will be outlawed, and democratic institutions will serve not the people, but those who threaten them into submission.
