(TJV NEWS) House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has renewed his call for legal action against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, formally requesting that Attorney General Pam Bondi pursue federal charges for allegedly providing false testimony during a congressional investigation into COVID-era policies.
In a letter sent Monday, Comer accused Cuomo of violating federal law—specifically 18 U.S.C. §1001, which prohibits making false statements to Congress. This move follows an earlier referral from October 2024 that the Biden administration reportedly did not act on. Comer urged the Department of Justice under Bondi’s leadership to reexamine the evidence and act accordingly.
According to Gateway Pundit, the letter highlights Cuomo’s denial of involvement in authoring a controversial July 2020 report by the New York State Department of Health. The report downplayed the impact of his administration’s policy that forced COVID-positive patients into nursing homes—a decision widely criticized for contributing to thousands of preventable deaths.
Cuomo testified before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in June 2024, claiming he had no role in drafting the DOH report and didn’t see it before its release. However, new evidence reportedly contradicts that statement, suggesting he not only reviewed it but was directly involved in editing its content.
As Gateway Pundit previously reported, the Cuomo administration ordered nursing homes to admit COVID-positive patients as early as March 2020. When death tolls rose, the state allegedly underreported the fatalities by as much as 50% when reporting to the DOJ.
Though Cuomo resigned from office in 2021 amid mounting scandals, including those surrounding nursing home deaths, federal and local investigations into his handling of the pandemic were later dropped by both the Department of Justice and the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Comer did not mince words in his statement:
“Andrew Cuomo is a man with a history of corruption and deceit, now caught red-handed lying to Congress during the Select Subcommittee’s investigation into the COVID-19 nursing home tragedy in New York,” he said. “This wasn’t a slip-up—it was a calculated cover-up… Lying to Congress is a federal crime. Mr. Cuomo must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The House Oversight Committee has pledged to fully cooperate with any Justice Department investigation moving forward.
