A home that has been in Yankees superstar Derek Jeter’s family for generations is set to hit the auction block. The New York Post reports that Jeter’s longtime New York State “castle” is expected to hit the auction block for less than half its 2018 asking price of $14.75 million — after four years on and off the market without any buyers. The minimum bid for the Orange County offering will be a much smaller $6.5 million. The spread, known as the Tiedemann Castle after Jeter’s grandfather’s adoptive parents, came back on the market in March 2021, with a $2 million price cut – at $12.75 million.

The Hall of Famer has tried multiple times to unload the massive property. Jeter and his wife, Hannah, listed the 12,000-square-foot home in 2018 for $14.7 million but pulled it from the market a year later. The listing reappeared last year with a $2 million discount. Then, earlier this year, it was relisted at $9.5 million, WSJ reports

The house is more than 12,500 square foot and, according to The New York Post, has six bedrooms and twelve bathrooms. It is located in Greenwood Lake, less than 50 miles from Manhattan, Paramount Realty USA will handle the auction.

Jeter has a personal history with the home. The Tiedemann family bought the home in 1952. Jeter’s grandfather, William “Sonny” Connors, was adopted by the Tiedemanns and grew up at the castle. A family trust was the entity that sold the property to Jeter in 2003, Real Deal reported.

The listing states that this historic property is situated on 4 acres, amenities include a baseball diamond-shaped infinity pool, cascading waterfalls flowing into a private lagoon, a boat house, a boat dock and verdant gardens throughout the grounds.

“Boasting a total of 5 kitchens across the property, multiple entertainment rooms, stunning waterfront views, expansive gardens and outdoor areas to explore, this sprawling castle estate is the ultimate full-time residence or the ideal weekend/summer getaway,” the listing adds. “Most furnishings are included in the sale of the property.”

According to Wikipedia, Derek Jeter is an American former professional baseball shortstop, businessman, and baseball executive. As a player, Jeter spent his entire 20-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the New York Yankees. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2020; he received 396 of 397 possible votes (99.75%), the second-highest percentage in MLB history (behind only teammate Mariano Rivera) and the highest by a position player. He was the chief executive officer (CEO) and part owner of the league’s Miami Marlins from September 2017 to February 2022.
