As the NY Post first reported, a veteran staffer at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said he wished all Israelis were wiped off the Earth in a vile social media post that recently resurfaced.

“1 Israeli left in this world would be one too many!” Achmat Akkad, a community coordinator with the agency since 2017, wrote on X about a year ago, according to the Jewish watchdog group Canary Mission.

In a deleted Nov. 10, 2021 post, Akkad, 40, also wrote, “Jews that don’t support apartheid are safe. Zionists aren’t!” according to screenshots captured by the group.

The revelations come as Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Health Department faces mounting criticism over allegations that staffers used taxpayer resources to convene a “global oppression” working group meeting that accused Israel of genocide. The controversy has sparked calls for city and federal investigations into the department.

Akkad, who predates Mamdani’s administration, made several other inflammatory remarks about Israel in archived and deleted posts shared online.

“Israel exists by sacrificing the blood of Black and brown people as an offering to white supremacy,” he wrote in one message under the handle @AchmatX.

In another post from about a year ago, he claimed Zionists “are behind the attacks, far right parties being elected across the world, attacks on free speech, the wars in MENE, the dehumanization of Muslims, and increase in police power…”

Reached by phone, Akkad confirmed he works for the Health Department and operated the X account but declined further comment. His account has since been suspended, and the offensive posts could not be independently verified after their deletion.

Akkad previously referred to himself on social media as the “US Ambassador to Harlem.”

The Health Department and Mamdani declined to comment. The mayor had no involvement in Akkad’s hiring.

Akkad first joined city government in 2015 as a community associate with the New York City Human Resources Administration/Department of Social Services during the administration of then-Mayor Bill de Blasio. He later moved to the Health Department, where he now earns $65,000 annually.

In a statement, Canary Mission blasted the city’s leadership.

“If this is who gets elevated into city government, what does that say about the leadership elevating him? New Yorkers should be outraged,” the group said.

The resurfaced posts have intensified scrutiny of the Health Department at a time of heightened tensions over the Israel-Hamas war and political activism within city agencies.
