New York City Mayor Eric Adams stopped by a posh charity event on Saturday night in Southampton.
As reported by the NY Post, the Mayor wore a bright blue floral tropical-inspired jacket decorated with vivid pink and yellow flowers, with green palm fronds. He matched it with powder blue linen pants. “He was dressed like he was going for the Greek dancing with the stars!” one source described to The Post. “There were more colors on him than on the islands in Greece! He was a hit.”
The event, entitled the Blue Dream Summer Gala was hosted by the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. The Mayor of Athens, Greece, Kostas Bakoyannis, was also a guest of honor at the event. Mayor Adams addressed the audience with a short speech. “He spoke for a few minutes with the mayor of Athens. He said it was a great honor to be standing next to the mayor representing the birthplace of democracy,” said billionaire radio host John Catsimadities, on his talk show Sunday morning.
The soiree reportedly garnered close to $700,000 in contributions, as of Monday. Parish head Father Alex Karlotosos told The Post he invited Adams to the event. Father Karlotosos was recently awarded the medal of freedom by President Joe Biden. “One of his number one issues is to make sure the city is safe,” said Karloutsos, lauding the mayor and adding that they are good friends.
The mayor also had other events to attend that evening and couldn’t stay too long. A rep for Adams said the mayor’s schedule was empty for Saturday, and he wasn’t aware of the events. Adams who has called himself the “nightlife mayor” has already been to the Hamptons on numerous weekends this summer. He delivered a Juneteenth speech at a Hampton Synagogue in Westhampton Beach, led by Marc Schneier, who is the former vice president of the World Jewish Congress. That same weekend he had attended a fundraiser and some happening destinations in Sag Harbor as well as Southampton.
The mayor apparently likes to see and be seen. He regularly dines at Manhattan’s Midtown Italian restaurant named La Baia. As per the NY Times, Hizzoner frequented the eatery at West 52nd Street some 14 times in the month of June. The mayor also got accepted for membership at the members-only club Zero Bond, in the Noho neighborhood which opened in 2020. Per the Post, he makes regular appearances at the private social club, and hosted a politician in a luxury private room at the club.
The 61-year-old mayor had started off serving as an officer in the New York City Transit Police, then making his way into the New York Police Department, and retiring 20 years later with the rank of captain. He also served as a NY State senator from 2007 to 2013. Most recently Adams had served as Brooklyn Borough President from 2014 to 2021.
