The gathering, which took place during the Muslim holy month, has raised questions about political judgment and public messaging at a moment when tensions in the city are already running high following an alleged ISIS-inspired terror plot uncovered on Sunday.

According to a report on Monday at VIN News, Khalil—a Syrian-born Palestinian agitator who became a prominent figure during campus protests linked to the Israel-Hamas war—attended the meal alongside members of his family. The event, hosted at the mayor’s official residence on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, was part of a series of Ramadan observances organized by City Hall to mark the holy month for Muslim residents of New York.
