Police are stepping up patrols at Long Island’s popular Robert Moses State Park after a large gathering of teenagers turned chaotic and resulted in a fight that drew a significant law enforcement response, according to reporting by the NY Post.

The incident unfolded during what participants described as an unofficial “Senior Cut Day” event, which reportedly brought together roughly 100 teenagers from multiple Long Island schools. According to the NY Post, video from the scene showed two teens wearing boxing gloves exchanging punches while a large crowd gathered around them to watch. The spectacle quickly attracted the attention of authorities and raised concerns about public safety as the summer beach season gets underway.

Officials confirmed that at least one person suffered injuries during the disturbance, though the full extent of those injuries has not been publicly disclosed. The NY Post reported that multiple police agencies responded to the scene as officers worked to restore order and prevent the situation from escalating further.

The event appears to have been organized through social media, a growing trend that has complicated law enforcement efforts in recent years. According to the NY Post, Suffolk County police officials said their intelligence detectives and crime analysts continuously monitor social media platforms to identify gatherings that could potentially create public safety concerns before they spiral out of control.

In response to the brawl, authorities are increasing their visibility at Robert Moses State Park and other beach destinations across Long Island. The NY Post reported that police will maintain a stronger presence on the sand and in surrounding areas, particularly during weekends when attendance typically surges.

Suffolk County police officials told News12, as cited by the NY Post, that five dedicated teams have already been deployed to patrol downtown areas and business districts throughout the summer. In addition, 20 seasonal officers have been assigned to the Marine Bureau to help provide extra coverage for beaches and waterways during the busy vacation season.

The NY Post noted that local residents expressed surprise that the disturbance occurred at Robert Moses State Park, which is generally regarded as a quieter and more relaxed destination compared to some of Long Island’s larger beach attractions. Witnesses said they had expected such gatherings at more crowded locations but were caught off guard when hundreds of young people descended on the Fire Island beach.

The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over large youth gatherings organized online. The NY Post has previously reported on similar incidents at parks and beaches around New York, where social media-fueled meetups have sometimes led to fights, property damage, and heavy police responses.

For now, officials say they will continue monitoring online activity and adjusting resources as needed throughout the summer. According to the NY Post, law enforcement agencies remain prepared to deploy additional officers if future gatherings threaten public safety at Robert Moses State Park or elsewhere on Long Island.
