(JEWISH VOICE NEWS) Radical socialist Zohran Mamdani’s once-commanding advantage in the New York City mayor’s race has shrunk to its smallest margin in months, the New York Post reported. A new Atlas Intel survey finds Mamdani leading with 40.6%, only 6.6 points ahead of former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has surged to 34% as an independent candidate.

As the Post noted, the poll marks a dramatic tightening of the race — Mamdani’s narrowest edge since July — and highlights growing momentum for Cuomo, who declared, “The gap is closing fast… at this rate, we win the race.”

Republican Curtis Sliwa also notched his strongest showing yet, climbing to 24.1%, his highest number since a HarrisX survey in July put him at 22%, according to the Post. But analysts said Sliwa’s continued presence could complicate the contest, as the Atlas poll suggests that in a head-to-head matchup, Cuomo would actually lead Mamdani 50% to 42%.

Earlier polls, including one from Fox News showing Mamdani up 47% to 31% and another from Emerson College giving him a 50% to 25% advantage, painted a very different picture. The Post pointed out that the latest data underscores how quickly the race is shifting — and how vulnerable Mamdani may be as Election Day nears.

Despite the tightening numbers, Mamdani told reporters after an event with Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network that he remains unfazed. “I continue to be confident, but I never let that confidence become complacency,” he said.

With nearly half a million New Yorkers already voting early — a significant increase from 2021 — the Post reported that turnout could play a decisive role in determining whether Cuomo’s late surge continues or Mamdani holds on. The Atlas poll carries a margin of error of three percentage points.
