(Daily Caller) House Republicans are currently debating a continuing resolution that would keep the government running through March 14, however many are heavily criticizing leadership for trying to push through unnecessary provisions negotiated behind closed doors.
The over 1,500-page spending measure will receive votes from both Democrats and Republicans and is being pushed by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. Johnson said in September that he has “no intention of going back” to the “terrible tradition” of a Christmas omnibus.

Critics claim the continuing resolution is filled with provisions that would waste hundreds of billions of dollars on nonsense. But despite that, Johnson says by passing it, “we’re clearing the decks and we are setting up for Trump to come in roaring back with the America First agenda.” It is being opposed by dozens of House Republicans as well as Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk, who will be running the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“The Cramnibus is 1550 pages with $100+ billion in unpaid-for spending negotiated behind closed doors,” The House Freedom Caucus said Tuesday night on X. (RELATED: ‘A Dumpster Fire’: Conservative Lawmakers Slam ‘Fundamentally Unserious’ Spending Bill Negotiated By House Leadership)
Here are some of the provisions drawing the biggest blowback from conservatives, many of which were identified on X by users like Small Gov Lizard:
- Members of Congress would be allowed their first pay raise since 2009
- A provision that allows lawmakers to opt out of Obamacare and use the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program instead
- Language on transparency in concert ticket pricing
- The federal government paying the entire bill to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge
- Accountability for recycling and composting fraud
- A “Feral Swine Eradication” program
- A continuation of the “Wool Trust Fund” until 2025
- Paying for juvenile delinquents to get their driver’s license
- No longer calling homeless adults and children “homeless”
- Extending a “sheep marketing grant program” until 2025
- The Global Engagement Center, the State Department’s office dedicated to censorship, will get another year of funding
- Spending $3 million dollars to test the inspection of molasses
These provisions and more have many House Republicans extremely frustrated with GOP leadership.
“This continuing resolution is a predictable result of Republican leadership embracing swamp practices. It continues to fund more of the same broken priorities Democrats wanted and ignores the mandate voters gave us to change course. Americans demanded a government that secures the border and cuts spending—not a continuation of the swamp’s status quo,” Texas Rep. Michael Cloud told the Daily Caller. Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar told the Caller that there is “not a single provision worth supporting.”
“In its totality, the entire CR is complete garbage. It continues to fund the government at Pelosi-Schumer-Biden levels, gives Members an undeserved pay raise, has zero offsets, was negotiated behind closed doors and is a liberal’s dream bill. No fiscally-responsible Republican should vote for this piece of crap,” Gosar said.
South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman explained that the continuing resolution should have gone through the Rules committee so that there could have been a debate on every provision and then blamed GOP leadership, saying it will pass with Democrat support.
“To put it lightly, this omnibus is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. For one, it should have gone through the Rules committee so that we could debate and discuss every single line item. Instead, Republican leadership decided to take the back door… we haven’t voted on it yet but they WILL pass it with Democrat support. I am deeply disturbed that republican leadership is green lighting BILLIONS more $$ with NO OFFSETS,” Norman told the Caller.
Ramaswamy said Wednesday morning he read all of the 1,574 bill and Congress needs to vote no. (RELATED: Congress Sneaks Pay Raise For Itself Into Spending Bill As Americans Struggle To Make Ends Meet)
“I wanted to read the full 1,500+ page bill & speak with key leaders before forming an opinion. Having done that, here’s my view: it’s full of excessive spending, special interest giveaways & pork barrel politics. If Congress wants to get serious about government efficiency, they should VOTE NO,” Ramaswamy said.
The House could vote on the continuing resolution as early as Wednesday evening.
