(TJV) Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a fierce anti-Trump Democrat who has been vocal in her attempts to disqualify Trump from the 2024 ballot, is now under fire for a significant lapse in security regarding voting systems in her own state.

Last week, sensitive passwords to Colorado’s voting equipment were inadvertently made public in a spreadsheet posted on the secretary of state’s website, a serious breach her office failed to address until it was reported by the Colorado GOP. Although Griswold had knowledge of the breach since October 24, it wasn’t until October 29, when Republicans sounded the alarm, that her office acknowledged the incident and took action.

The leak, described by Griswold’s office as involving “partial passwords to certain components of Colorado voting systems,” was first discovered by an anonymous individual who reportedly accessed the spreadsheet in early August. This person found BIOS passwords for over 700 voting system components by selecting hidden portions of the document—a careless error that Dave Williams, Colorado GOP chair, said defies Griswold’s claims of a “Gold Standard” election system.

In response to the GOP’s revelation, Griswold attempted to downplay the breach, asserting in an interview with 9News that the situation “does not pose an immediate security threat.” She cited the use of a secondary password and physical access requirements, though critics argue this incident reflects a significant lapse in security practices and oversight. Griswold’s office, after disclosing the breach, has begun working with the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to manage the incident.

This breach follows Griswold’s efforts to bar Trump from the ballot, which she defended before the Supreme Court as necessary to uphold the 14th Amendment, asserting that Trump is an “ineligible insurrectionist.”
