Council of Jewish Organizations Honors NYPD at Annual Summer Appreciation BBQ

Edited by: TJVNews.com

On August 15, 2024, the Staten Island Council of Jewish Organizations (COJO-SI) continued its annual tradition of honoring the NYPD at their Annual Police Appreciation BBQ. The event was sponsored by Scott Maurer, CEO and Executive Vice-President of COJO. Approximately 150 of New York’s finest, including Chief Joseph Gulotta, the highly respected and well-liked Staten Island Borough Commander, joined COJO for a day of appreciation and celebration.

Mendy Mirocznik, President of COJO, expressed his gratitude, saying, “It truly was an afternoon full of celebration and appreciation. It gave COJO the opportunity to express our heartfelt thank yous to our heroes and to let them know that COJO values their service and appreciates their dedication. We recognize that through thick and thin, the NYPD is there for everyone 24/7, 365 days of the year. We further want you to know that your efforts to keep us safe, especially since the uptick in antisemitism and hate following the terror attack of October 7, are noted and appreciated. We owe a deep gratitude to our hardworking, valiant officers, who make our city safe and our hometown Staten Island the greatest place to live. This BBQ is just a small way of saying thank you on behalf of the Staten Island community.”

Mirocznik also thanked Mayor Eric Adams for his support of the NYPD and for making public safety his top priority. “Thanks to the NYPD implementing the mayor’s vision, New York City is the safest city in America,” he added.

Addressing Chief Joseph Gulotta, Mirocznik said, “We at COJO salute you, Chief Gulotta, and we want you to know that we appreciate you and all the great officers under your command. You truly have the best of the best serving under your loving eye. The secret to their success is your supportive and great leadership style that sets the tone and makes the difference. You truly are hands-on and serve as a credit to the department.”

The BBQ also served as an occasion for COJO to welcome and congratulate several NYPD officials on their new appointments and promotions: Chief Amir Yakatally, on his appointment as Executive Officer, Patrol Borough Staten Island (PBSI); Lt. Mike Scally, on his promotion; Inspector Eric Waldhelm, on his appointment as Commanding Officer, NYPD 120th Precinct; Inspector Glorisel Lee, on her promotion and appointment as Commanding Officer, NYPD 121st Precinct; and Captain Jim Palaj, on his appointment as Commanding Officer, NYPD 123rd Precinct.
