Re-election of Anti-Semitic Congresswoman Omar Shows How Lander’s Anti-Israel Woke Political Coalition Can Elect Him Mayor
By Gary Tilzer
The primary victory of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar by 15,000 votes last week, 600% bigger than her 2020 win, and despite Omar’s antisemitic stance on Israel and Jews, serves as a stark reminder of how far-reaching the influence of socialist coalitions with woke activists can be in shaping the political landscape. Both radical Congresswoman Omar and Controller Brad Lander are politically astute socialists and know how to build broad political coalitions, transcending their base to secure electoral victories. Omar’s base is the Muslim community in Minnesota, and Lander’s base is the woke progressives moving into the gentrified neighborhoods of NYC. While Omar’s anti-Israel beliefs are out in the open in her coalitions with woke activists, Lander’s approach is subtler in public, employing a careful balance of public relations and political maneuvering to maintain his influence with Jewish groups and pro-Israel voters.
Brad Lander, Democratic Socialist since 1987, also attended a “community Shabbat dinner” at a restaurant that features a section of its menu called “river to the sea”. Lander’s woke socialist campaign team and supporters are interconnected with Anti-Israel Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) who organized and participated in over 3,000 anti-Israel rallies all over NYC, since the October 7th sneak attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians, and oppose all U.S. funding for Israel. Both, Lander’s campaign consultants and the pro-Palestine activists receive funding from Soros-backed PACs and nonprofits that bolstered anti-Israel protests, shutting down the city’s bridges, streets, and even disrupting the Macy’s Parade. The surge in antisemitic hate crimes in NYC—up 45% in 2024—is directly linked to these protests, such as the recent stabbing of Yechiel Michel Dabrowskin in Crown Heights, where the attacker shouted, “Free Palestine.”
The Influence of Outside Antisemitic Funding, Particularly from Figures like George Soros, Cannot be Ignored in Lander’s Woke Coalition Political Machine
Soros-funded nonprofits were instrumental in building the woke political machine that now dominates NY’s government, politics, and elections. From Lander’s early days as an activist on the board of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ) to his current position as NYC Comptroller, Lander’s rise, and his political consultants’ training, have been fueled by a network of nonprofits organized by his wife, and funded by Soros and left-wing PACs committed to reshaping the city’s political landscape.
Congresswoman Omar won by a larger margin in this year’s primary over 2022, and her initial election to Congress in 2018, was made possible by a coalition of Minnesota woke socialist activists, with her Muslim base. In 2020, Omar was endorsed by the woke governor of her state Tim Walz, the current Democratic Vice-President candidate, who was picked over the stronger candidate who was Jewish–Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Woke Walz, a staunch supporter of left-wing squad member Congresswoman Omar, said “when I’m having a tough day, I think Ilhan Omar is in Congress, and I smile.” “Congratulations to our next Vice President,” Rep. Omar wrote on X last week, boasting that Walz is “Bringing Minnesota nice to the ticket.”

The woke socialist coalition that delivered Omar victory in the primary was not deterred by Omar’s Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) support and she denounced Israel’s settlement policies and military campaigns in Gaza, as well as her charges that Israel controls America’s politics and government.
Omar’s woke coalition that includes Governor Tim Walz finds itself on stronger footing than anti-Israel/Jewish Congressman Jamaal Bowman, and Congresswoman Cori Bush, both of whom lost re-election primaries this year with a big Jewish voter turnout. Lander was attacked by Jewish leaders for holding a joint fundraiser with Bowman at a Columbia University professor’s home. “Congressman Bowman’s has proven himself to be a vile antisemite, but instead of separating from him, Comptroller Lander doubles down on his endorsement,” Councilman Kalman Yeger, fumed.
Bowman and Bush–defeated congressional members, faced well-funded challengers and millions of dollars in spending by the United Democracy Project (UDP), a super PAC affiliated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. UDP did not air ads against Omar’s race because she did not seem as vulnerable as Bowman and Bush, because of Omar’s strong support of the Minnesota’s woke coalition.

Both Omar and Lander and Their Political Consultants Created A Woke Socialist Coalitions to Win Elections
While Congresswoman Omar’s base includes the large number of Muslims living in her district, most Orthodox Jews fail to recognize that Brad Lander has a dangerous political base of woke socialist political activists, many of whom have interconnected with anti-Israel pro-Palestine protesters. Instead, the Jewish community sees a Councilman who funded Shmira Civilian Volunteer Patrol and other Jewish nonprofit organizations and a Comptroller who speeds up city funds for nonprofits, showing up for food giveaways to the poor in Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods.

The Jewish Community fails to see that while Lander keeps up good relations with Jewish leaders and nonprofits, he uses government-funded nonprofits and socialist supporters to strengthen his socialist political machine, which includes woke elected officials, nonprofits, and voters in the city’s increasingly gentrified neighborhoods, where historically minority elected officials who were elected for being community organizers are being replaced with ideologically woke socialists.
Lander’s Ability to Publicly Spin and Explain His Record and Lander’s Supporters’ Anti-Israel Activism Will Determine His Chances of Becoming NYC Mayor in 2025
Lander defines himself as a “progressive Zionist,” and has called for a cease-fire while expressing concern for Israeli hostages and Palestinians. Within weeks of the Oct. 7 attacks on Jewish civilians in Israel, Lander’s progressive synagogue in Park Slope in Brooklyn called for a cease-fire. According to the New York Times, “Lander sent a letter during college, to a Jewish newspaper in his hometown, St. Louis, canceling his subscription. He said he could no longer tolerate its ‘rabid and racist anti-Arab sentiments’ and ‘cold, prejudiced and unfeeling attitude toward the Palestinian people.’”
Lander wrote in the Forward Newspaper in 2017: “I’m Zionist and a Feminist. I Stand with Linda Sarsour…” Former Assemblyman Dov Hikind, cited in the Brooklyn Eagle, said “Sarsour’s criticisms of Israel and her reluctance to denounce firebrand Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan as examples of her views.” While Lander says he does not agree with Sarsour on every issue, his statements did not address the real damage she has done as co-chair of the women’s rights marches, connecting the woke activists with the anti-Israel activists during the last decade.
@SallyGold on X: “New mayoral candidate @bradlander joining New York Jewish Agenda calls tomorrow to stand with Israeli hostages. Almost feels like this *might* be an issue in the mayor’s race.
Lander’s former chief of staff, socialist Councilwoman Shahana Hanif, who the Comptroller backed as his successor in the very progressive Park Slope council district, voted against a council resolution to “End Jew Hatred,” sponsored by Councilwoman Inna Vernikov.
Councilwoman Inna Vernikov Twitter @InnaVernikov: @ShahanaFromBK, who proudly voted NO on my reso to “End Jew Hatred,” wants to “globalize the intifada” aka turn the violent uprising against Jews into a global movement.
Councilwoman Hanif was arrested in Park Slope at a protest rally demanding Senator Schumer support a ceasefire in Gaza. Another Assemblywoman who Lander and the nonprofit The 5th Ave Committee, that he controls, put in office Marcela Mitaynes, was also arrested at a rally in Park Slope (the headquarters of the women’s movement) demanding a cease-fire less than a week after dozens of Jewish young women were raped and Jewish children were murdered in Israel. Follow the Money and Nonprofits:
When socialist Comptroller Lander was a Councilman, he dished out $80,000 of city funding to the anti-Israel group called Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JREJ), which helped organize anti-Israel protests in and around Columbia University, City College, and other NYC college campuses.
Brian Robinson, a Jewish businessman, and a candidate for congress in 2022, called JFREJ and its political arm–the Jewish Vote, a “far-left scam.” Robinson stressed that “we have allowed this pro-dystopian organization to LARP [role playing] on behalf of the mainstream Jewish community for far too long.” “During primary time, JFREJ suddenly pretends to be pro-Jewish when they are consistently against both mainstream Jewish values and interests.” Jonathan Greenblatt, director of ADL retweeted Robinson’s charges against JFREJ and The Jewish Vote the political endorsing arm for the 501(c)(3) JFREJ nonprofit.

It’s Bradford “both sides” Lander of St. Louis, who doesn’t want to lose the terrorist #Hamas simp minority vote. Shame on you, as it’s yet another bad pander from Brad Lander. Never a New Yorker, never mayor! #Pander2025™️💰🐀🐍🤡 pic.twitter.com/vhNJO7o0Bq

In the mid-1990s Lander joined the board of directors of JFREJ. The Jewish Vote, a project of JFREJ, endorsed Lander, far-left AOC, defeated Congressman Bowman and every socialist on the City Council and elected to the Albany legislature.
@JCAndersonNYC: Lander claims he’s a proud Zionist while being a member of 2 of NYC’s most anti-Zionist groups (DSA/JFREJ), & that his bestie Linda Sarsour is “deeply committed” to combating antisemitism. There’s literally nothing this guy won’t say.
Lander’s communications director Naomi Dann used to work as the media program manager for the Soros’ funded ($650,000) Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), which helped to organize the anti-Israel rally in Park Slope where Lander’s former chief of staff and the candidate he endorsed Councilwoman Shahana Hanif was arrested while demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. The JVP interlocks with woke activists who work for or represent city-funded nonprofits supporting Landers’s campaign for mayor with volunteers and contributions from their highly paid board of directors. Both Lander woke activists on payroll of the nonprofits and Soros funded nonprofits interlock with each other and other anti-Israel nonprofits who according to the CIA director receive funding from overseas, all working with DSA activists who have been spewing hate at protest marches since the October 7th massacre,
Soros’s funded nonprofits also helped start NYC’s woke, self-proclaimed progressive machine, starting with the funding of the ACORN nonprofit, which taught woke activists such as the leaders of lobbyist Berlin Rosen, Advance, and Working Families Party (WFP) how to run campaigns and work together to take over NY’s politics and government. Jewish Voice: “The Press Failed to Investigate and Report How de Blasio, WFP, Brad Lander, Jumaane Williams, and Lobbyists Berlin Rosen Brought Socialism and Anti-Semitism into NY’s Government and Politics.”
Brad Lander is now claiming he’s a Zionist . Lol pic.twitter.com/qscpUQkWer

Soros’s PACs also contributed to de Blasio and Lander campaigns, and the WFP campaign LLC “Data and Fields” to pump illegal money into publicly funded WFP and Berlin Rosen socialist candidates, de Blasio, Lander, and others that WFP endorsed. Leaders of WFP, de Blasio administration, and Berlin Rosen were investigated by the feds for working with the Soros-funded de Blasio PAC Campaign for One NY(CONY), for laundered pay-to-play money, attempting to overthrow Republican control of the NYS Senate in 2014. The CONY consultants who were investigated for using illegal CONY PAC, empowered DSA as a front group to run a successful campaign to turn the State Senate Democrat in 2018. Their actions led to DSA anti-Israel woke activists metastasizing with antisemitic Palestinian protesting to be a major part of Lander’s woke machine that will run his campaign for Mayor in 2025.
The Soros funding and illegal campaign tactics elected de Blasio Mayor, Lander Comptroller, and several socialists to the City Council, resulting in the socialist takeover of the City Council. The socialist City Council gave de Blasio, Lander, WFP, and DSA the power to set up a Shadow Government of pay-to-play lobbyists which they used to build a woke political machine to take control of NY’s government, politics, and elections.
During the last NYC election in 2021, the woke Political machine elected socialist Lander City Comptroller, socialist Antonio Reynoso Brooklyn Borough President, and over a dozen socialist council DSA or WFP candidates. Most of the non-socialist elected officials go along with the woke laws because they are afraid of primaries from the socialist machine if they oppose their policies.
Lander’s Media Manipulation: How NYC’s Comptroller Exploits a Broken Press to Push His Political Ambitions
As the landscape of media shifts in the digital age, the erosion of local journalism has far-reaching consequences, particularly for the health of democracy. Princeton University media professor Paul Starr has long warned that the decline of the newspaper industry, exacerbated by the rise of the internet, has changed local government and politics. In NYC, this transformation has created a vacuum that politicians like Lander have deftly exploited to further their own ambitions.
NYC’s press, often dominated by a progressive reporters and publishers, has conveniently ignored, downplayed, or even lied about the city’s most pressing issues that go against their liberal narrative. Since the October 7th Hamas attacks that sparked global outrage, NYC has witnessed over 3,000 anti-Israel protests. Yet, the nearly $53 million in overtime costs incurred by the NYPD in managing these uprisings has barely made headlines. The silence is deafening, especially considering how just a few months ago, those same media outlets were all too eager to highlight Lander’s March 23rd controller’s report lambasting the short-staffed NYPD for excessive overtime spending.
The contrast in coverage is no accident. Lander, who has consistently supported anti-NYPD measures, has weaponized his office to attack the police and Adams as part of his strategy to position himself for a 2025 mayoral run.
And you’re not delivering on the promise, Pander. Zero percent returns for the almost three years you’ve had the NYC pension funds under your woke bs management. Zero point zero, @bradlander of St. Louis. Never a New Yorker, never mayor! https://t.co/rDsfDxP0eN

Lander is a vocal proponent of policies that favor providing benefits to migrants, regardless of cost. Notably, Lander has even pushed for extending costly housing vouchers to migrants. However, when it serves his political purposes, Lander suddenly becomes a fiscal hawk. Last month, he used his office’s auditors to release a Comptroller’s report targeting DocGo, a contractor working on migrant services, accusing them of waste. The press eagerly amplified Lander’s calculated campaign attack on Adams, disguised as a Comptroller’s report, showcasing how liberal media bias works in tandem with Lander’s political ambition.
It is clear that the media is covering up Lander’s agenda to turn NYC from a hub of capitalism into a socialist stronghold, ignoring the fact that most New Yorkers reject his policies. Eighty (80) percent believe the bail law which Lander supports, caused the crime wave, 85% are deeply concerned about the migrant crisis, and nearly two-thirds oppose congestion pricing, which Lander also supports. Yet, Lander remains unconcerned, counting on low voter turnout—just 15% in recent primaries, which is easy to dominate with Lander’s reliable, woke socialist voters. The media, even while covering the mayor’s race, does not connect Lander’s no-bail and anti-police policies’ crime wave as causing a 40% reduction in subway ridership, driving 500,000 taxpayers, and a trillion dollars in Wall Street investments out of the city, all of which weakens NYC’s economy, which Forbes magazine used to describe as the strongest and most resilient in the world.
As the 2025 mayoral race draws closer, the growing influence of Lander’s socialist-woke base will be a critical factor to watch. Lander’s ability to balance the conflicting interests of his diverse supporters will be crucial in determining whether he can replicate the success of figures like Congresswoman Omar, whose influence has already reshaped politics in the Democratic Party.
