The Staten Island Council of Jewish Organizations (COJO) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Captain Glorisel Lee on her recent appointment as the Commanding Officer of Precinct 123. This momentous occasion was marked by the attendance of Mendy Mirocznik, President of COJO; Scott Maurer, CEO and Executive Vice-President of COJO; and Ari Weiss, COJO’s Security Chairman and Coordinator of Staten Island Shomrim, at a roll call held at Precinct 123, located in the Tottenville section of Staten Island.
Precinct 123, which serves the South Shore of Staten Island, including Tottenville, Huguenot, Rossville, Annadale, Pleasant Plains, and Eltingville, is situated in the southernmost and westernmost parts of New York State and New York City, respectively. This precinct is also home to the esteemed Yeshiva of Staten Island, under the leadership of its venerable Rosh HaYeshiva, HaGaon HaRav Reuven Feinstein, Shlit’a.
In his remarks, Mendy Mirocznik lauded Captain Lee, a distinguished 19-year NYPD veteran known for her exemplary service in the department’s candidate assessment and recruiting division, and her prior role at the 10th Precinct in Manhattan’s Chelsea area. “Captain Lee’s profound understanding of the core principles of effective policing is invaluable for Staten Island, particularly amidst the concerning rise in antisemitism,” Mirocznik stated. “Her proactive approach in engaging with COJO and comprehending the community’s needs is a testament to her commitment to building strong community relations. We are eager to collaborate with Captain Lee and her team to further enhance the quality of life and public safety in Staten Island.”
Captain Lee expressed her deep appreciation for COJO’s support and partnership, acknowledging the vital backing provided by the borough of Staten Island to its law enforcement. She emphasized COJO’s pivotal role as a linchpin of community support. “The presence of COJO at the roll call, their encouraging words, and eagerness to collaborate greatly inspire our officers. I am truly honored by this warm reception and look forward to a productive partnership with COJO and the broader community,” remarked Captain Lee.
Scott Maurer highlighted COJO’s unwavering commitment to nurturing strong police-community relations, a priority that has gained even greater significance in the wake of the October 7, 2023, terror attack and the ongoing rise in anti-Semitism. “Our engagement with Captain Lee reassures us that we have a steadfast ally in Staten Island. Under her leadership, we are confident that Precinct 123 will thrive, and we anticipate a rewarding collaboration,” Maurer concluded.
Captain Lee’s appointment signifies a pivotal advancement in reinforcing the bond between law enforcement and the Staten Island community, fostering an environment of safety and unity.
