In New Book, Wuhan Lab Scientist Says Covid Virus May Have Been Man Made

It appears that the dreaded Covid virus may have been man made, according to a report based on findings of a scientist who worked at a controversial research lab in China.
Quoting an article from The UK Sun newspaper that appeared on Saturday, the New York Post reported that Andrew Huff, who worked for a New York-based non-profit that studied viruses, said Covid leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China more than two years ago and assigned blame to authorities for the “biggest US intelligence failure since 9/11.”
This is not the first time that the origins of the Covid virus have been explored and the Wuhan Lab has been at the center of fierce debates. In the past, lab personnel along with Chinese government officials have patently denied that the virus leaked from the facility.
The Post reported that Huff, an epidemiologist, said in his new book, “The Truth About Wuhan,” that the pandemic was the result of the US government’s funding of coronaviruses in China.
The scientist further claimed that lax security led to the Wuhan Lab leak and that China was engaging in fain of function experiments, the Post reported.
It was also reported by the Post that Huff’s book was exclusively excerpted in The Sun of the UK and that in it the scientist said, “Foreign laboratories did not have the adequate control measures in place for ensuring proper biosafety, biosecurity, and risk management, ultimately resulting in the lab leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”
As evidence mounts, it has been suggested on numerous occasions over the last two years that the deadly Covid virus was indeed leaked from the lab, the Post reported.
As to how the virus was leaked, the Post reported that some experts believe that it is possible that it could have left the confines of the lab through a scientist who had contracted the virus or through the improper disposal of waste from the facility. Earlier this year, another UK based newspaper, The Daily Mail, reported that the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, told a European politician that he feared that the virus escaped from the lab in “a catastrophic accident” in 2019, according to the Post report.
Huff is a former vice president of EcoHealth Alliance, a New York-based non-profit that studies infectious diseases, according to the Post. He worked there from 2014 to 2016. The group has been studying different coronaviruses in bats for more than a decade with funding from the National Institutes of Health, and had forged close ties to the Wuhan lab.
Huff said that the non-profit helped the Wuhan lab put together the “best existing methods to engineer bat coronaviruses to attack other species” for many years, the Post reported.
In his book, Huff wrote: “China knew from day one that this was a genetically engineered agent. The US government is to blame for the transfer of dangerous biotechnology to the Chinese.”
“I was terrified by what I saw,” the army veteran from Michigan told The Sun, according to the Post report. “We were just handing them bioweapon technology.”
According to a recent investigation published by ProPublica/Vanity Fair, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a state-run and funded research facility home to China’s riskiest coronavirus research, has been under immense pressure by the ruling Chinese Communist Party to produce scientific breakthroughs to raise China’s global status despite lacking resources, the Post reported.
