Ghislaine Maxwell, remains relatively low profile and out of the spotlight as her lawyers will appear before a judge on Thursday regarding records being released pertaining to a defamation lawsuit brought against her, Page Six reported.
Maxwell’s team will appear before Judge Loretta Preska on Thursday and go up against a lawyer for Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, who claims she was recruited by Maxwell to be Epstein’s sex slave and trafficked to Prince Andrew and other high-profile men. Andrew denies the allegations, Page Six explained.
Giuffre sued Maxwell in 2015 for defamation after the British socialite publicly called her a liar.
U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska on Monday ruled that a cache of previously unreleased documents concerning dead pedophile Jeffrey Epstein would not be released as part of this defamation dispute, Law & Crime reported.
Loretta A. Preska, who in August ordered the release of more than 2,000 previously sealed documents, found that the remaining tranche of documents were not “judicial” in nature and therefore not subject to the presumption of public access, Law & Crime explained.
Page Six reported: “Maxwell remains firmly in hiding, being protected by a number of pals, Page Six revealed, but still retains a number of high-paid lawyers doing her bidding in court. “
“In this case, the underlying litigation between Ms. Giuffre and Ms. Maxwell has long since settled,” Preska wrote. “Accordingly, all disputes regarding the underlying merits of the action have been rendered moot by the settlement. There is thus no live controversy to which the judicial power can extend.”
The vast majority of the documents in question were motions filed by Giuffre that the trial court judge did not rule on before the case settled.
“With respect to motions left undecided by [the trial judge], there was never, and now never can be, a judicial decision-making process that would trigger the public’s right to access the undecided motions and the documents relevant to them,” Preska wrote in her 11 page ruling reported by Law & Crime.
Sigrid McCawley, an attorney for Giuffre and other Epstein accusers, told Page Six “ Ghislaine Maxwell might be MIA, but her lawyers know where to find her. For five years her lawyers have worked aggressively to conceal the central role we maintain Maxwell played as Epstein’s co-conspirator and the devastation they brought upon the lives of countless young girls and women. Much of the story remains untold”
