Andrew Giuliani Tapped by Trump to Lead White House Task Force on 2026 FIFA World Cup

Edited by: TJVNews.com

In a move that combines politics, sports, and a touch of family legacy, President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, will serve as Executive Director of the White House Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement, made via Truth Social and reported in The New York Post, signals a high-profile appointment just weeks ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup and two years before the largest global soccer event ever staged on U.S. soil.

“I am proud to announce the appointment of Andrew Giuliani,” President Trump wrote, praising the 39-year-old as a loyal public servant and citing his past accomplishments during Trump’s first term. Giuliani previously served as a special assistant to the president and associate director of the White House Office of Public Liaison, where, according to Trump, he played a “key role” in reopening the U.S. to international athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The task force, which was established by executive order in March, is charged with overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics surrounding both the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a massive sporting spectacle that will take place across 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

As the report in The New York Post noted, the 2026 tournament is being described by Trump and White House officials as a “historic opportunity” to showcase American hospitality, infrastructure, and security capabilities on a global scale. Trump has pledged that the event will be the “biggest, safest and most extraordinary soccer tournament in history.” He emphasized the enthusiasm of his youngest son, Barron Trump, a devoted soccer fan, as symbolic of the sport’s growing popularity in the U.S.

Joining Giuliani on the task force will be Carlos Cordeiro, former President of the United States Soccer Federation and a senior advisor to FIFA. Cordeiro will serve as a Senior Advisor to the task force. Trump credited Cordeiro for playing a pivotal role in the winning bid that secured the 2026 tournament for North America, describing him as “an indispensable voice in the global soccer community.”

“I know Andrew and Carlos will work tirelessly to make the 2026 FIFA World Cup an unprecedented success,” Trump said in his statement, according to The New York Post report. “Congratulations Andrew and Carlos!”

As The New York Post report indicated, Andrew Giuliani has had a colorful and sometimes controversial public life. Thrust into national attention as a 7-year-old at his father’s 1994 mayoral inauguration, Giuliani was famously spoofed by Chris Farley on “Saturday Night Live” for his exuberant and unscripted behavior during the televised ceremony. Years later, he returned to the spotlight as part of Trump’s inner circle during the former president’s first administration.

After leaving the White House, Giuliani mounted a 2021 campaign for governor of New York, ultimately finishing second in the GOP primary to Lee Zeldin, who went on to lose the general election to Gov. Kathy Hochul in 2022.

Now, Giuliani finds himself at the helm of what is expected to be one of the largest international sporting events in modern history. According to the information provided in The New York Post report, the World Cup task force is expected to coordinate efforts between federal agencies, state governments, local municipalities, and international partners, with responsibilities ranging from transportation and security to tourism, media, and hospitality.

The economic impact of the tournament is projected to be enormous. As noted in a March statement from the White House and cited by The New York Post, each host city could receive up to 450,000 visitors, generating an estimated $480 million in economic activity per city through tourism, retail, and job creation.

The Club World Cup, a precursor to the main event, is scheduled to kick off on June 14, 2025 — coinciding with President Trump’s 79th birthday — and will run through July 13. Matches will be played in 12 U.S. cities, serving as a test run for the sprawling logistics required for the main tournament in 2026.

The 2026 World Cup itself will run from June 11 through July 19, 2026, with games held in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Seattle, and San Francisco, among others.

As The New York Post report explained, the appointment of Giuliani — coupled with Trump’s personal involvement — reinforces how seriously the administration is treating the event, both as a security undertaking and a national branding opportunity. With global attention set to converge on North America, the White House sees the World Cup as a chance to put American excellence on full display — in stadiums, on city streets, and across millions of screens worldwide.

With Giuliani and Cordeiro now officially at the helm, the world will be watching not just the beautiful game, but how America hosts it.
