(TJV) Randy Fine, a Jewish Republican backed by former President Donald Trump, has won the special election in Florida’s 6th Congressional District, securing 54% of the vote. The Associated Press called the race just 30 minutes after polls closed, concluding a closer-than-expected contest against Democrat Josh Weil, a teacher who significantly out-raised Fine.
Fine, known for his MAGA-style culture warrior persona, aggressively targeted Weil over his Muslim faith and past criticisms of Israel. Despite national frustration with the Trump administration, Fine’s victory strengthens Republican control of the House of Representatives.
His win brings the total number of Jewish Republicans in Congress to four an achievement the Republican Jewish Coalition called unprecedented since at least the 1980s. The group noted it was the first to host a major fundraising event for Fine after he launched his campaign.
Trump celebrated Fine’s victory on Truth Social, and Fine quickly responded, crediting the former president: “Because of you, Mr. President,” he tweeted. “I won’t let you down.”
