A mob of vandals wreaked havoc on three NYPD vehicles—smashing windows, denting cars, and even jumping on them—during a chaotic illegal car meet-up in Queens early Sunday morning, NY Post reported. The mayhem unfolded along Rockaway Boulevard in Ozone Park around 1 a.m. as police responded to the unruly scene.
Footage of the incident shows a crowd surrounding an unmarked NYPD car, with some individuals slapping and leaning on the vehicle. One vandal climbed onto the hood and used a traffic cone to smash the windshield, cracking it. NY Post reported that others quickly followed suit, hopping on top of the car and hurling additional cones at it before the vehicle—its sirens blaring—managed to escape the fray.
Additional footage captured the mob throwing objects at a marked NYPD cruiser. According to police, three patrol cars sustained significant damage, including broken windows and dents. Fortunately, no officers were injured in the attack.
Following the incident, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch took to social media to condemn the lawlessness.
“We will not tolerate lawlessness or vandalism aimed at the police,” Tisch wrote on X, announcing that multiple arrests had been made. “Rest assured, we’ll be back soon for the rest of them.”
According to NY Post, officers later arrested three individuals in connection with the Queens rampage. The suspects were taken into custody around 3:45 a.m. in the Bronx, though police believe more perpetrators remain at large.
The suspects arrested include Jordi Montesquieu, 23, of Massachusetts, who faces multiple charges, including third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer, and obstructing governmental administration.
Tyler Newman, 18, of New Hampshire, was charged with obstructing governmental administration, while Queens resident Tristian Nandram, 18, faces multiple charges, including third-degree criminal mischief, possession of stolen property, petty larceny, and obstructing governmental administration.
According to NY Post, Nandram is accused of stealing a bag containing police paperwork from one of the damaged vehicles.
Authorities are actively searching for additional suspects involved in the vandalism and reckless driving incidents that plagued the area overnight. The NYPD has released images of several individuals believed to be connected to the chaos, many of whom were seen wearing masks and neon-colored vests.
GOP mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa seized on the incident as evidence of the city’s deteriorating law and order, blaming progressive policies for emboldening criminals.
“Our officers are the best in the world, but we must let them do their jobs without fear, hesitation, or political interference,” Sliwa said on X. “We must restore law and order—and a Sliwa Administration will bring back the New York we know and love.”
As the NYPD intensifies its investigation, authorities have vowed to track down all those responsible for the reckless destruction, NY Post reported.
