Ukraine Agrees to Ceasefire Deal in Exchange for U.S. Intelligence, Security Assistance

Ukraine has agreed to a temporary ceasefire with Russia in exchange for the United States resuming intelligence sharing and security assistance, according to NewsNation.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the agreement, stating that Washington will now present the proposal to Moscow.

“I think today, Ukraine has taken a concrete step in that regard. We hope the Russians will reciprocate,” Rubio said. “Our hope is that the Russians will say yes, that they will also agree. So the shooting will stop. The killing will stop. The dying will stop, and the talks can begin about how to end this war permanently in a way that’s acceptable and enduring for both sides.”

Negotiations took place in Saudi Arabia between officials from both the U.S. and Ukraine, with Ukraine expressing gratitude for prior American support. Under the agreement, Ukraine will implement an immediate 30-day ceasefire, which could be extended with mutual agreement—provided Russia also agrees to the terms.

In return, the U.S. will lift its pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine immediately.

Russia was not present at the negotiations, and the U.S. is expected to communicate that Russian reciprocity is essential for the ceasefire to hold.

As part of the broader agreement, both sides have committed to appointing negotiating teams to work toward a long-term peace settlement. The U.S. will continue diplomatic efforts by relaying proposals to Russia, with European leaders also joining the discussions.

Additionally, Ukraine and the U.S. will collaborate on an agreement to develop Ukraine’s mineral resources, a move that could further strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
