Trump Was Right to Force Columbia to Clean House

At long last, sanity has returned to Columbia University—and it took the bold leadership of President Donald Trump to make it happen. For too long, Columbia’s campus has been a breeding ground for unchecked anti-Semitism masquerading as political activism, and finally, someone with real authority stood up to say: Enough.

After months of grotesque harassment, violent rhetoric, and thinly veiled Jew-hatred flooding Columbia’s lecture halls and protest rallies—much of it ignited after the barbaric Hamas attack on October 7, 2023—Trump drew a clear red line. Either the university cleans up its act or loses $400 million in federal funding. And guess what? The university caved. Rightfully so.

Trump’s conditions were not only reasonable—they were long overdue. Reining in the out-of-control Middle East Studies department, long a hotbed of anti-Israel indoctrination, is a critical first step. For years, that department has served more as a propaganda mill for the Red-Green Alliance—the unholy marriage of far-left radicalism and Islamist extremism—than a center of scholarly rigor. Its faculty members have excused terrorism, demonized Israel, and actively stoked division among students. Under new oversight, perhaps it can finally begin to reflect academic integrity rather than ideological extremism.

The new protest rules—such as a campus mask ban and stronger disciplinary measures—are just common sense. Hateful mobs have used anonymity as a shield while Jewish students have been spat on, threatened, and hounded in their dormitories and classrooms. Enough is enough. If you can’t protest without hiding your face like a coward, you don’t belong at a university in the first place.

Critics will call this censorship. But it’s not censorship—it’s leadership. President Trump made it clear: American tax dollars will not subsidize anti-Semitic hatred. And that’s exactly the kind of moral clarity we need in a time when too many are afraid to call evil by its name.

Columbia gave in because Trump was right—and because America will no longer tolerate institutions that coddle hate in the name of “resistance.”
