Chuck Schumer has made a career out of proclaiming himself the self-appointed “guardian” of the Jewish people. But judging by his actions—more precisely, his stunning inaction—that title has become nothing more than a hollow talking point, an empty slogan he dusts off when it’s politically convenient. In reality, the only thing Chuck Schumer seems to know about anti-Semitism is how to ignore it, enable it, and obstruct any meaningful effort to combat it.

Since the barbaric Hamas massacre of Israelis two Octobers ago, Jewish communities in the United States have faced an unprecedented wave of harassment, intimidation, and outright violence. And where has Senator Schumer been? Hiding behind carefully crafted statements, virtue-signaling from a podium, and now, laughably, writing a book—“Anti-Semitism in America: A Warning.” A warning? The warning signs have been blaring like sirens for months. The real question is: what has Schumer actually done?

While Jewish students are being harassed on college campuses and Jewish businesses are being vandalized under the guise of political protest, Schumer chose to use his power not to defend his community, but to vilify Israel. In March 2024, he took the Senate floor not to condemn Hamas terror or defend Israel’s right to exist—but to demand new elections in Israel, labeling Prime Minister Netanyahu an “obstacle to peace.” He might as well have waved a keffiyeh while doing it. At a time when Israel was literally fighting for its survival, Schumer made it clear which side he was on—and it wasn’t ours.

Worse still, when the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act—legislation that would formally adopt the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism—passed the House with broad bipartisan support, Schumer did nothing. He refused to bring it to a vote in the Senate. Let that sink in. The most powerful Jewish lawmaker in U.S. history actively blocked the single most important legislative tool to combat anti-Semitism on American soil.

And now, with grotesque irony, he’s publishing a book about anti-Semitism—as if his feigned awareness will absolve him of his dereliction. No book, no speech, no sanctimonious press release will erase his failure to act when it counted most.

Schumer’s brand of performative Judaism is not leadership—it’s betrayal. It’s time to stop pretending he’s a champion of Jewish safety. His record shows the opposite. Real leadership is measured by courage in moments of crisis, not clever titles on dust jackets.
