Katz Women’s Hospital Named a Center of Excellence – Again

Edited by: TJVNews.com

The Katz Women’s Hospital at Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center has once again been named a Center of Excellence by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP), one of 90 such hospitals in the United States.

This redesignation extends the hospital’s SOAP recognition for another four years, effective March 12. Katz Women’s Hospital was first named a Center of Excellence in 2020, two years after the distinction was first created by the organization, which is comprised of anesthesiologists, obstetricians, pediatricians and scientists from around the world.

“I am incredibly proud that Katz Women’s Hospital has once again earned the prestigious recertification as a SOAP Center of Excellence,” said Michael Gitman, MD, senior vice president of Northwell Health and president of LIJ Medical Center. “This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional, evidence-based care to expectant mothers and their newborns. It reflects the dedication, expertise and compassion of our entire team, who work tirelessly to ensure the safest and most exceptional birthing experience possible.”

SOAP’s Center of Excellence designation spotlights a hospital’s commitment to providing the highest-quality obstetric anesthesia care. The organization identifies institutions and programs that meet rigorous standards in obstetric anesthesia care. Criteria includes personnel and staffing, equipment and protocols, simulation and team training, obstetric emergency management, cesarean delivery and labor analgesia care, implementation of recommendations and guidelines, as well as quality assurance and patient follow-up systems.

“This prestigious recertification is a direct result of the hard work, dedication and collaborative spirit of our exceptional team,” said Joshua Younger, MD, director of obstetric anesthesia at LIJ Medical Center. “It reaffirms our dedication to providing collaborative, comprehensive and patient-centered care for expectant mothers and their families. Our team of highly skilled anesthesiologists, obstetricians, PAs, nurses and support staff work tirelessly together to ensure the safety and well-being of every mother and baby in our care.”

This renewed COE designation solidifies LIJ’s Katz Women’s Hospital’s position as a leader in obstetric anesthesia and reinforces its promise to provide unparalleled care for expectant mothers throughout their childbirth experience.

SOAP award winners will be recognized at SOAP’s 57th annual meeting on May 3.
