In a remarkable achievement for Israel’s healthcare system, Sheba-Tel Hashomer Medical Center has climbed to 8th place in Newsweek magazine’s annual ranking of the world’s best hospitals, as reported by VIN News on Thursday. The prestigious ranking, compiled in collaboration with Statista, evaluates medical institutions worldwide based on scientific achievements, patient care quality, and expert opinions.
According to the information provided in the VIN News report, Sheba Medical Center, located near Ramat Gan, has been recognized among the top hospitals in the world for the seventh consecutive year. This year’s rise to 8th place follows steady improvements in previous years, with the hospital ranking 9th in 2024 and 10th in 2023. This upward trajectory highlights Sheba’s growing influence and excellence in global healthcare.
The Newsweek ranking assesses major hospitals in 30 different countries, considering surveys from tens of thousands of doctors, patient satisfaction reports, and key hospital performance metrics such as treatment standards, hygiene measures, patient safety, and wait times.
Sheba Medical Center is not only Israel’s largest hospital but also one of the biggest medical institutions in the Middle East. Spanning an 840-acre campus, Sheba employs approximately 10,000 staff members and has over 1,900 beds. It handles a staggering 2 million patient visits annually, making it a central pillar of Israel’s medical infrastructure.
One of the major reasons for Sheba’s rise in the rankings this year is its pivotal role in treating war casualties and caring for hostages released from Hamas captivity. They were Ichilov Hospital (Sourasky Medical Center) which was ranked 60th globally, Rabin Medical Center (Beilinson Hospital) which ranked 122nd globally and Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital which ranked 242nd globally.
Newsweek’s 2025 ranking includes leading hospitals from a diverse group of 30 countries, among them are the United States, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, United Kingdom, South Korea, Brazil, India, Canada, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore.
