AOC Seeks DOJ Clarification on Possible Investigation Over Immigration Webinars

(TJV) Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi on Friday, requesting clarification on whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating her for hosting “Know Your Rights” webinars on immigration. These sessions, organized by her office, aimed to educate illegal individuals on their “legal rights” regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions.

Her inquiry follows remarks by former Trump administration border czar Tom Homan, who, during a Fox News interview earlier in the week, claimed he was coordinating with the DOJ to assess whether Ocasio-Cortez had “crossed the line” by conducting the webinars.

“I sent an email today to the deputy attorney general,” Homan stated. “At what level is that impediment? Maybe AOC is going to be in trouble now.”

In her letter, Ocasio-Cortez raised concerns about potential political motivations behind any DOJ actions, questioning whether the agency was being used to target officials for their speech.

“For the past two weeks, ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan has appeared on multiple platforms threatening political prosecution against me for providing my constituents and the public with information about their constitutional and legal rights,” she wrote.

She noted that she had not received any official notice from the federal government regarding an investigation but warned that Homan’s comments could undermine constitutional protections. She further argued that threatening legal action over free speech violates the First Amendment.

“Educating the public about their rights, especially during uncertain times, is a fundamental duty of elected officials,” she asserted. “A government that weaponizes the DOJ to suppress speech is a danger to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.”

Ocasio-Cortez requested an update from the DOJ on whether an investigation is underway by March 5. She also sent a copy of the letter to the 47th president.
