The recent revelation that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) orchestrated assassination plots against President Donald Trump should send shockwaves through Washington. This is no longer a hypothetical threat; it is an active, ongoing campaign by the Iranian regime to kill a sitting U.S. president on American soil.

According to newly unsealed charges, three men—Farhad Shakeri, Carlisle Rivera, and Jonathan Loadholt—have been implicated in an Iranian-directed conspiracy to assassinate Trump, along with other Iranian-American and Jewish targets. The mastermind, Shakeri, a known asset of the IRGC, remains at large in Tehran. The Islamic Republic of Iran has now escalated from verbal threats to concrete action, attempting to strike at the very heart of American sovereignty by targeting a former president.

In recent years, the Biden administration had appeased Iran through half-hearted sanctions enforcement and backchannel negotiations. The result? An emboldened Tehran that believes it can operate with impunity on American soil.

President Trump cannot afford to take these threats lying down. He must adopt a far more aggressive approach in dealing with the Iranian regime, one that goes beyond rhetoric and demonstrates America’s unwavering resolve. This means severe, immediate, and unrelenting consequences for Iran’s brazen actions.

Three Steps Trump Must Take Now

  1. Impose the Harshest Economic Sanctions in History

Trump should immediately announce a new, crippling round of economic sanctions that go beyond those he imposed during his first term. This must include:

Total financial isolation of Iran by cutting off any remaining access to international banking.

Secondary sanctions on any country doing business with Iran, ensuring no European or Asian entity aids their economy.

Complete restriction of all Iranian assets held abroad, preventing Tehran from using its frozen funds to finance terrorism.

Declaring the IRGC a terrorist organization worldwide, making it illegal for any U.S. or allied entity to engage in commerce with individuals or organizations linked to the Iranian military.

Iran must feel the full economic weight of its reckless actions. The United States has the power to suffocate the Iranian economy, and it should do so immediately.

  1. Halt All Commercial Travel to and From Iran

The fact that Iranian operatives are inside the United States should be a wake-up call. There must be an immediate ban on all commercial travel to and from Iran, along with strict vetting of any visa applicants with ties to the regime.

Any foreign nationals with connections to Iran’s government must be denied entry.

Iranian nationals already in the U.S. on visas should face rigorous security screenings to root out sleeper agents.

All flights between Iran and Western countries must be prohibited, preventing regime operatives from using international travel hubs to infiltrate American soil.

This is a national security imperative. The Biden administration’s weak border policies have created vulnerabilities that Iran is actively exploiting to position operatives within the U.S. That must end now.

  1. A Direct Military Strike on Iran’s Oil Fields or Nuclear Facilities

While economic sanctions and travel bans are crucial, they alone are not enough. The Iranian regime only understands force. If Iran has plotted to murder a former U.S. president on American soil, it must pay a direct price.

President Trump should consider a direct military strike on one of Iran’s key strategic assets:

Target Iran’s oil infrastructure. By crippling Tehran’s primary revenue source, the U.S. can financially devastate the regime overnight.

Strike Iranian nuclear facilities. Tehran is accelerating its nuclear program while openly targeting U.S. leaders. A military response would set back their ambitions and demonstrate American resolve.

Destroy key IRGC bases. The IRGC is a terrorist organization that has repeatedly attacked American personnel and interests. Striking their command centers would send a clear message that assassination attempts against U.S. leaders will not be tolerated.

If Iran believes it can assassinate a U.S. president without consequences, what is to stop them from targeting current officials, business leaders, or American citizens abroad? Trump must take action before Tehran escalates further.
