As The New York Post reported on Saturday, Fred Wilson, a special education and social studies teacher at Egg Harbor Township High School, allegedly wrote on Facebook: “I think we are at the moment where assassination is at least a talking point.”

The seriousness of the alleged threat has prompted a federal investigation, as the Secret Service has confirmed that it is taking the matter seriously. The incident calls attention to growing concerns about escalating political rhetoric and threats of violence, particularly in light of previous assassination attempts against Trump. Given that President Trump has already survived two assassination attempts before the November election, the timing and nature of Wilson’s alleged post raises grave concerns. The New York Post report emphasized that any suggestion of political violence—particularly against a high-profile public figure such as Trump—demands immediate and decisive action from federal law enforcement.

In addition to the Secret Service inquiry, Egg Harbor Township Schools have launched their own internal investigation into Wilson’s alleged comments. According to The New York Post report, Superintendent Kim Gruccio addressed the issue in an email to parents and faculty, stating: “The district is aware of the social media post that is circulating from one of our high school teachers. We take comments about and suggestions of violence very seriously.”

This statute makes it illegal to: “Knowingly and willfully make any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States.”

If federal prosecutors determine that Wilson’s post constituted a credible threat, he could face serious legal repercussions, including fines and potential prison time, the New York Post reported. Additionally, if the Egg Harbor Township School District finds that Wilson’s conduct violated professional ethics or jeopardized student safety, he could face termination from his teaching position.
