(TJV NEWS) The Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced Monday that an astonishing $4.7 trillion in U.S. Treasury disbursements were “almost impossible” to track due to a widespread failure to use standard accounting codes. Despite the existence of a federal tracking system, agencies simply ignored it when distributing funds—leaving a massive chunk of taxpayer money unaccounted for.
DOGE revealed that the Treasury Access Symbol (TAS) field—designed to tag and track government payments—was left blank in trillions of dollars’ worth of transactions, making it nearly impossible to determine where the money ended up. That changed over the weekend. “As of Saturday, this is now a required field, increasing insight into where money is actually going,” DOGE declared via its official X account.
Musk celebrated the reform, calling it a “major improvement in Treasury payment integrity” and applauding the collaboration between DOGE, the Treasury Department, and the Federal Reserve.
The Left Melts Down Over DOGE’s Oversight
Predictably, DOGE’s efforts to bring transparency to government spending have sparked outrage among Democrats and liberal activists. From career politicians wary of scrutiny to everyday progressives who believe government spending is inherently virtuous, the reaction has been one of panic rather than relief.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, however, pushed back against the narrative that DOGE is a rogue operation. “These are highly trained professionals,” he told Bloomberg. “This is not some roving band going around doing things. This is methodical, and it is going to yield big savings.”
Undeterred by the backlash, DOGE has now turned its attention to the Social Security Administration (SSA). Critics are already fuming at the prospect, despite the fact that Social Security is on track for mandatory benefit cuts by 2033. If anything, a deep audit should be welcomed—especially given DOGE’s latest discovery: SSA records suggest that 20.789 million Americans over the age of 100 are collecting retirement benefits, including 12 million who are supposedly over 120 years old. Musk hinted at the magnitude of the issue, calling it possibly “the biggest fraud in history.”
Democrats Scramble to Shut DOGE Down
Rather than embracing transparency, Democrats have launched a legal effort to block DOGE from accessing data from multiple federal agencies, including the Office of Personnel Management, as well as the Departments of Health and Human Services, Education, Energy, Transportation, Labor, and Commerce.
However, their case isn’t off to a strong start. During Monday’s hearing, the presiding judge dismissed their arguments as largely speculative, saying, “The courts can’t act based on media reports. We can’t do that.” A ruling is expected Tuesday.
With DOGE now in full investigative mode, expect more revelations in the coming months—along with even louder shrieks from those desperate to keep the status quo intact.
