(TJV) A Brooklyn resident, who was in the U.S. illegally, has been arrested for allegedly supporting ISIS after his ex-wife reported him to authorities, revealing his fraudulent attempt to gain legal status.
Mansuri Manuchekhri, 34, from Sheepshead Bay, is accused of sending $70,000 to individuals linked to ISIS between 2021 and 2023, believing the funds would aid the families of deceased fighters. Prosecutors state that he frequently trained with firearms and shared videos of himself firing assault rifles. Federal agents also found a photo of him posing with two AK-47s.
Manuchekhri originally entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in 2016 but overstayed. In 2017, he attempted to obtain legal residency through a fraudulent marriage, but the effort failed due to incomplete documentation. His ex-wife later alerted authorities, citing potential danger.
He was arrested in Brooklyn and is being held without bail. He faces charges of providing material support to a terrorist organization, illegal firearm possession, and immigration fraud, which could result in a prison sentence of up to 45 years.
