It’s 2025. Can the left stop promoting the worst versions of the female sex now, please?
The fires engulfing Los Angeles are devastating and heartbreaking and also the most “California” thing to happen in the state obsessed with promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion over competence. When you see the flames destroy homes and businesses, it’s impossible not to be empathetic to the lives that are being destroyed. The scale of the damage won’t be known right now, but we are witnessing hundreds of thousands of affected people and tens of thousands of homes wiped out.

Still, it’s obvious to anyone not blinded by the left’s propaganda that it’s a bad look for women leaders. It’s infuriating as a woman that the left keeps promoting the most incompetent members of my sex to serve as the marker for societal progress. It would be easier to sell their golden DEI calf if they could be counted on during emergencies, but that’s been far from the case in the LA fires.
As the fires roared, LA Mayor Karen Bass was on vacation in Ghana for President John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration. I remember when Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz was called heartless for taking his family to Cancun during a terrible Texas storm despite there being little he could do to help. Bass is the first person in charge in LA in the case of an emergency, and the media barely mentioned her Ghana trip.

I wish I could say that Bass being in Ghana while her city burns to the ground is the worst of it, but it’s only the beginning. Last year, Bass cut the LA Fire Department (LAFD) budget by almost $20 million. I repeat, $20 million, with $13 million of that coming from cuts to operating supplies (you know, the part of the budget that actually helps them stop fires). Maybe I could see this as acceptable in a place where rain isn’t scarce. However, this is California we are talking about — the state where wildfires are a frequent worry. Not only is the LAFD working on a shrunken budget, but the LA city government has also failed to approve filling the water reservoir that feeds the water hydrants all over the city. There are reports of firefighters combating the massive blaze and finding bone-dry fire hydrants. How can you fight fires if there isn’t any WATER? Despite what city institution is responsible for filling the reservoir, the buck stops with Bass because she is the city’s leader. She should know if everything is functioning as it should in case of an emergency.

When your mayor is a complete joke, hopefully, the residents can rely on other city officials to fill in the gaps. But this is California, the land of woke left-wing policies, so unfortunately, they can’t turn to the person in charge of the fire department for help. Instead, LA residents have LA Fire Chief Kristin Crowley.
Crowley’s official bio states that she leads “a diverse department” and that her priorities are “[c]reating, supporting, and promoting a culture that values diversity, inclusion, and equity while striving to meet and exceed the expectations of the communities.” When the weather is nice, I’m sure the majority of LA residents look at her DEI priorities as a great example of promoting the “common good.” However, as their homes burn down around them, their “expectations” are that the fire department is staffed with competent people able to handle the blaze, no matter their race or gender.
Unfortunately for them, Crowley isn’t interested in hiring the best. Instead, she is focused on increasing the number of women working for the LAFD. In an interview with NBCLA in 2022, while wearing a mask, Crowley told the outlet that as she looked at the portraits of the former fire chiefs hanging on the walls of her headquarters, she couldn’t help but notice none of them looked like her. She goes on to say that when people ask her what her diversity numbers will be, she explains there will be no cap on ensuring that DEI becomes the bedrock of the LAFD’s hiring process.

“People ask me, ‘Well, what number are you looking for?’ I’m not looking for a number. It’s never enough,” Crowley said.
The reporter, Gordon Tokumatso, then says that she “checks another box when it comes to inclusivity and diversity at this department,” saying that she’s a “proud member of the LGBTQ community.”
Just once, it would be nice for one of these DEI hires to actually be able to do the job they are hired for instead of focusing on left-wing ideologies that put people in danger. By continuing to advance the careers of DEI box checkers, the left pushes society directly into the hands of the red pill bros who believe that women are too stupid or entirely incapable of leading.
I have never been on the cheering side of feminism or women’s empowerment. It’s a subversive cult that seeks to erase the divinely created difference between men and women. However, I can also acknowledge that there are women who are entirely capable of handling positions of power. Women like St. Joan of Arc, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and St. Gianna are great examples of strong women who lead us in dark times.
So, where are the intelligent, competent women on the left calling foul to this ideology that is setting women back decades? Silent. They don’t want to face the reality that competence is king.
Women deserve better representations than the ones the left promotes.
