Media Gins Up Fake Trump-Related Hoax Just Hours Into Second Term

(Daily Caller) Liberal elites are drawing from their old playbook, attempting to turn a perfectly innocent gesture into a cancellable offense. Has no one told them what time it is?

During his speech at the inauguration on Monday, Elon Musk pressed his hand to his heart and threw his love to the crowd as he thanked them for their role in electing Donald Trump. Yet some among our Very Respectable Elite took this gesture as a dangerous threat: an undeniable Hitler salute, a mask-off moment for the MAGA-fascism about to explode.

“Um,” tweeted Aaron Rupar, a journalist best known for warping Trump’s every move into something nefarious, alongside a clip of the video. You know what the implication is. (RELATED: Biden’s Last-Minute Pardons Might Be Good For Trump, But Bad For America) 

In case it wasn’t clear, some “experts” inserted themselves into the fray to clarify.

“Hi! Holocaust historian here,” one British academic chimed in. “Let me see if I can help. That wasn’t a ‘weird salute.’ It was a Hitler salute. Because Elon is a fucking Nazi. Hope that helps!”

Another professor, at least an American this time, added her two cents as well: “Historian of fascism here. That was a Nazi salute – and a very belligerent one too.”

PBS — you know, the government-funded public news network — cut an entire video clip of the gesture where the outlet claimed Musk “gave what appeared to be a fascist salute.”

 

And of course, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t resist jumping into the fray, claiming Musk’s “Heil Hitler salute” was “performed and repeated for emphasis and clarity.”

Musk himself laughed it off, saying “They need dirty tricks.” Which is exactly the right posture to take.

In 2017, something like this would have dominated the news cycle for days. Like the Charlottesville hoax, it could have defined the entire administration. Good, smart people — with moderate-to -low media literacy — would have been compelled to take elite consensus at its word and shudder. But these days, a half-baked attempt at cancellation is unlikely to gain any traction. Hell, even the Anti-Defamation League, a leftist group ostensibly dedicated to fighting antisemitism, came to Musk’s defense.

So while ADL understands it’s a “new day” in America, many have still not gotten the memo. Americans have lived through countless hoaxes since Charlottesville. They know that terms like “Nazi,” “fascism, “racist” et al. mean next to nothing anymore, merely a tool for liberal elites to cudgel you into a feverish fear and submission. The best medicine is to laugh at them.
