Brooklyn’s 13th Annual Unity in Action Gala: A Celebration of Togetherness and Progress

On December 22, 2024, Brooklyn hosted its 13th annual Unity in Action Gala, a heartwarming celebration of community strength and diversity. Held at The Bridge MCP, the event drew over 300 attendees, including religious leaders, community advocates, and political representatives, all united by a shared commitment to fostering harmony and progress.

The evening began with a stirring rendition of the national anthem by Riki Rose, followed by a prayer led by Imam Muhammad Shahidullah. Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, president of COJO in Staten Island and a member of Mayor Eric Adams’ advisory board of clergy, set a reflective tone by lighting two candles for world peace and offering a heartfelt prayer for the immediate release of hostages in Gaza. These solemn moments spoke volumes about the gala’s theme of unity and the importance of collective hope in the face of global challenges.

Brooklyn’s Unity in Action Gala has always served as a platform for impactful voices, and this year was no exception. Distinguished guests included Public Advocate Jumaane D. Williams, New York State Assembly member Rodneyse Bichotte, and City Council members Farah N. Louis, Mercedes Narcisse, Rita Joseph, Susan Zhuang, and District Leader Josh Pierre. Each delivered poignant remarks that celebrated the power of community while inspiring attendees to continue their efforts toward inclusivity and progress.

“Events like this remind us of the strength in our diversity and the importance of coming together to create a brighter future,” said Rodneyse Bichotte, capturing the spirit of the evening.

Honoring Leaders Who Make a Difference

This year’s Gala recognized three honorees whose contributions to Brooklyn’s community have left an indelible mark:

Randy Peers, President of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, for his work in supporting local businesses and driving economic growth.

Dorinda Bagwell-Angelucci, former producer of The Bridge TV, for her creative contributions to community storytelling and representation.

Melissa Avilés Ramos, Chancellor of the New York City Schools, for her transformative leadership in education.

As attendees applauded the honorees, their accomplishments stood as a testament to the impact of dedicated service and the power of leadership.

The evening also featured artistic performances that celebrated the vibrancy of Brooklyn’s cultural tapestry. Mia Ali and her daughter, Mia, recited a touching poem that resonated deeply with the audience. Their words served as a reminder of the beauty of shared humanity and the need to work collectively toward common goals.

The Gala concluded on a high note, with attendees from all walks of life dancing to multicultural music that reflected Brooklyn’s rich diversity. The spirited celebration highlighted the event’s overarching message: when communities come together to share, celebrate, and collaborate, the bonds of unity grow stronger.

The Unity in Action Gala was more than a festive gathering; it was a shining testament to Brooklyn’s enduring spirit of collaboration and resilience. As attendees shared ideas, strengthened friendships, and celebrated their collective achievements, they reaffirmed their commitment to building a more inclusive and prosperous future.

Congratulations to the honorees and all those who contributed to the success of this year’s Gala. Their dedication to uplifting their communities exemplifies the true essence of leadership and service. The Unity in Action Gala stands as a beacon of hope and progress, reminding us all of the power of coming together to achieve greatness.
