(TJV) The shooter behind the attack at the Feather River School of Seventh-Day Adventists in California has been identified as Glenn Litton, 56. Authorities confirmed that his actions were politically motivated, spurred by his claims of opposing the “genocide” and “oppression” of Palestinians amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

On Wednesday afternoon, Litton entered the small Christian school, which enrolls fewer than 36 students, under the pretense of enrolling his child. Shortly afterward, he shot two kindergarteners—6-year-old Roman Mendez and 5-year-old Elias Wolfhard—before fatally shooting himself. Both children suffered critical injuries but are now in stable condition.

A note found on Litton’s body accused the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of complicity in what he described as “genocide” and the oppression of Palestinians. The note also referenced U.S. military actions in Yemen and called for “counter-measures” against the church for its alleged role in America’s Middle Eastern policies. Authorities recovered an untraceable ghost gun at the scene, noting Litton’s previous felony convictions barred him from legally owning firearms.

Sheriff Kory Honea revealed that Litton had scheduled a meeting at another Seventh-Day Adventist school later in the week, suggesting plans for further violence. During the meeting at Feather River, staff described him as “cordial” before the sudden attack.

In the wake of the tragedy, fundraising efforts have been launched to cover medical expenses for the young victims. Wolfhard’s family created a GoFundMe page, while the Mendez family turned to GiveSendGo for support.

The incident underscores the escalating impact of geopolitical tensions on local communities and the vulnerabilities of small institutions like Feather River School.
